Did an exclusive piece for the NOTW today. Last week people on here called Bascombe a rat and questioned his character. Well how do you all feel about our favorite player contributing to the rag?? As I said a week ago about Bascombe, I'm disappointed he went to NOTW as hes better than them and I feel the same about Carra. These are intelligent guys that should be writing for serious newspapers and not Sunday tabloids. However it is their choice and I will not say a bad word about either. There is NO boycott of NOTW and that is a fact but it is a rag just like the Sun,Star and Daily Mail. I have just read the vitriol rubbish that has been written about JC today. Some of the stuff he has been called is shocking and they have even managed to drag Owen and Gerrard into the debate and ripped them to pieces. What the hell is wrong with our supporters?? We are top of the league with the best squad in the league (if not Europe) and the last week has been spent slagging local journalists and players?? It just enhances my belief that Bascombes comeback article is the best thing written about Liverpool for a long time. And before some replies by saying I haven't a clue about Liverpool FC, values, community or whatever I've been to going to home and away matches for years and there has never been opposition to the NOTW on any trip I've been on. I've even seen reds reading it on Sundays around the city.
Good post James. Agree with your view but you may brace yourself because sometimes expressing a contrary view is twisted into somehow being a betrayal. If there's a more dyed in the wool scouser on the planet than JC I'll eat my...insert preferred body part here.Interesting the timing of Bascombe's departure and this 'exclusive'....
I personally think this is sad news and unfortunately the beginning of the end of one of the most successful & justified boycotts ever. I have to say Bascombe response was well worded and crafted but as another poster stated if he had made the decision last year to do this would he have reported or be allowed to report "The Truth" After the FA cup tie last January. "Their scouse law dictates which city, football clubs, comedians, musicians, politicians and writers are to be loved and hated" After reading this quote above from Bascombe I kinda stopped reading his message I knew it would be "look its them scousers again". James in your argument you stated you are disappointed, some people express their disappointment in different ways and you must allow them that also. I think the fact Carra has done this has led the way unfortunately to others doing it. Ask yourself one question if their are no links between the NOTW & The S*N why do these guys feel the need to ask HJC for approval. If there are no links between these papers then why do they run the exact same fantasy football why do they run the same exclusives why do they advertise one another's paper & why is their links on each others sites (btw I got last information from RAWK and various LFC websites, I wouldn't even dream of touching their website.) I am not going to divide our support anymore on this my stance hasn't changed its clear I have lost a lot of respect for these guys yes including Carragher Gerrard Owen & Bascombe I for one will not be pissing on the memory of 96 redmen and other supporters that were there that day. I would also like to hear Carra's take on this regarding how the NOTW got the story ie did he give it to them did they get somewhere else I don't even know what the story is. But one more thing I would say The S*n have apparently a team set up to improve copy sales on Merseyside they have been years trying to improve sales, the 60k they are paying Bascombe looks like its the best 60k they ever spent. At this moment in time I would ask all supporters not to by this paper for one reason that imo its their way maybe not in the immediate short term but over the long term their way of selling the S*N on Merseyside.
James, yer dead right.I'm sick to death of half wits preaching about "NOTW is just the Sunday Sun, and if you read it your a scum bag". You rightly state it is an utter rag, and Bascombe is too good to be writing for them, but if people are going to blanket boycott every paper etc that is associated with the Sun, they would need to boycott SKY too, since Murdoch owns them all, but I don't hear anyone proposing that. Im 100% for boycotting the Sun, but don't presume myself to be justified in attacking Bascombe for making a personal career choice, or JC for doing an interview with NOTW, like I say, are we going to start lambasting people for doing post match interviews with SKY?Of course not
This article could have come from any where. It could have been a lazy c*nt of a jurno just coppying an interview that Carra gave about Owen and Heskey there is nothing to say that he went out to meet this jurno and give him an exclusive.
I have no problem with anyone buying the NOTW but from a personal opinion its a complete rag and all its storys are wrote by halfwits.Carragher should not be involved with them in any way shape or form and should he want to air his opinion then it would be better to talk to the broadsheets instead. As for the the s*n i will never read it as all true reds shouldnt and it will never sell well in Liverpool hopefully.
There are links between the NOTW & the s*n just as there are between the Times and the s*n and Sky and the s*n. You do know that some programs on Sky are sponsored by the s*n don't you?? News Corporation use one vehicle to promote another and as far as I'm aware receive tax breaks for doing so. The NOTW is not part of the boycott. the s*n and mackenzie are the targets and rightly so. Neither have or have had anything to do with anything ever written in the NOTW. If you disagree with this then you might be worried to know that theres currently a post on this site which contains information written by two NOTW journalists. If people want to start a boycott of the NOTW then good luck to them but they would be hypocritical not to cancel their Sky subscription, stop buying the Times and ceasing to watch anything made by FOX. Finally if you have lost respect for Carra, Gerrard, Owen or any other player who has done an exclusive for the NOTW how can you possibly continue to support the club passionately after this ???
As I said from the outset my opinion will always be qualified by people who were there that day. below are emails from another forum member to the HJC I for one am of the same opinion as Sheila I have made my informed decision and as HJC said I will not be dictating my view on this matter any futher. Its up to you guys to decide what you decide but please don't ever question my support for our club. That hurts big time! Hi, I was wondering whether you be kind enough to clarify the HJC's stance on the News of the World. I consider the NotW as the Sunday version of The Sun. That is my own personal view brought about I feel by the close relationship between the two "papers". Back in April 1989 I don't think the link was anything like as overt as it is today, and suspect that is the reason why no formal boycott has ever been declared. I suspect that if the disaster had taken place in the last couple of years that both papers would have been covered by the boycott (again this is my personal opinion). Can I also ask where you ever consulted about Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard's "exclusives" with the paper? I was at Hillsborough that awful day and subsequently found out that I lost a cousin I never even knew existed. A day never goes past when I don't think about what happened. I applaud you all for keeping the fight for justice going, especially after that rag poisoned national opinion so much so that many in this country are blissfully unaware of what really happened (ignoring indeed Lord Justice Taylor's conclusions). Many thanks and all the very best, Colin (aka Kopite on RAOTL). Quote from: Sheila Coleman (HJC) Hi Colin, Like you I consider the NOTW to be the Sunday edition of the Sun and as far as I am aware the people I know at the HJC think the same. However, it is neither the aim or the role of the HJC to dictate policy to Liverpool supporters. Fans are more than capable of reaching informed decisions by themselves. The current debates on the forums regarding Carragher and the NOTW serve as a clear indication of this. The HJC reacts and responds to its wide support. The boycott of the Sun is a case in point. The HJC was happy to facilitate the boycott as a direct response to fans requesting such a course of action. As far as I know the group was never contacted regarding other players writing in the NOTW. Obviously this current debate will be discussed at the next meeting of the HJC. I think it is worth pointing out that Jamie Carragher (and his family) has been the one Liverpool player who stands out as having consistently supported the HJC. Thanks for your email and your support. I'll print it off and show it at the next meeting as I think it is important that the group keeps on top of the views of people such as yourself. Best Wishes Sheila Coleman Quote from: Me (again) HI Sheila, Thanks for your reply. Can I ask would I be ok putting this, minus your name, on Red All Over The Land's forum please? Many thanks and all the best, Colin. Quote from: Sheila Coleman (HJC) Hi Colin, That' fine - keep my name in if you want - I,ve not got a problem with that. Also I've spoken to a few people from the group today and I know that broadly speaking we are in agreement. Keep in touch if there anything else. Cheers Sheila
Most newspapers are owned by the same group. They are just marketed differently. I never really read newspapers anyway as it is more opinion and experienced based than actual fact. As for carra on the NOTW....has anyone read it?
My opinion is qualified by facts and truth and the fact is that there is no boycott of the NOTW. Kopite even mentions this in his post to Sheila. I fully respect your opinion and admire your passion but my reason for beginning this thread was because I am shocked at the abuse Carra has received from Liverpool fans. Thankfully none of it has been on here.
