This now becomes our most important game since we played Spain back in 2002. An under fire manager, likey to be missing our top goal scorer and a team that is bound to be somewhat deflated after what happened last night. But I've still got faith in this lot, and with the players fully behind Stan I think this could be one of our best performances in a long time. I'm going for a 2-1 victory for us in this one, setting us nicely up for a mighty summer holiday next year...

Sorry Sean but the best we can hope for is a miraculous 0-0 draw I reckon & I'm afraid I don't have a lot of hope for that, much as I'd love a a few weeks in middle Europe next summer.

You could be right mate, but if we win 2-1 I'll be singing from the rafters and on about how I always stood by Stan. If we lose you won't hear or see from me for the next week or two... :D:D

I think we'll raise our game tomorrow night without doubt, I think Finnan is a big loss as his experience would have been a big plus and I think we'll miss Stephen Ireland as he's popped up with a couple of important goals recently. Hunt & Reid have to start, badly need Doyle & Dunne fit to stand any chance of getting a result

The frustrating thing is, if we get a win (& that's a huge IF), instead of feeling top of the world I think I'll be even more annoyed at the 2 points dropped on Saturday

Stan were you really that happy with the team the last day that you only made the one enforced change:confused:

One name Steven Hunt!!!!

Himself , pennant and wright phillips prob the most inform wingers in the prem.
The two full backs were poor at best in the last game and kilbane is going a resonable job for wigan there I'm not his biggest fan but he does give 100 % .
WTF?

Where has this been confirmed mate? Beggers belief that Hunt, one of the most in-form players in our squad isn't starting when he deserves to be there ahead of at least half of that team

Correct. Given the current squad of players, I think Hunt should have played left side. (And I am not one for dissing Kilbane.)

Posted in the support section months ago asking how you get an avatar, somebody very kindly replied with step by step instructions and I hadn't visited since (forgot all about it) until today - she looked marginally more appealing than Marge Simpson et al and the rest is history :p

If you have any other websites you suggest visiting for same, much obliged if you would advise accordingly - congrats on yours by the way, presumably your other half?? :D

That is a terrible team. Lets be honest a blind dog with a mallet could probably select a better irish team than stan. We have players capable of playing in a world cup if they were properly coached.

I said before I feel sorry for Stan. He was a great servent to the game, but thta memory has been eroded by his inadequaciesas a coach, and to most people he is now seen as a joke. Shame

I blame John Delaney for the current situation, first he got our hopes up be saying he will get us a world class manager. Then appoints Stan.I don't blame Stan as anybody with an ounce of nation pride would take up the roll of managing your country.

If heads are to roll over this the first one on the block should beDelaney IMO.You cant just chop and change managers without having some ramification's,Delaney put Stan in the job so there two jobs should be linked.

How stubborn is Staunton! It almost feels like he's going with this team just to stick up two fingers to all his naysayers. I can see us getting a serious tanking tomorrow. 4 or 5 nil loss and hopefully that will be the end of him.

Even if we win tomorrow, or play brilliantly and draw, it will not be down to Stan.

I do agree that Delaney was primarily at fault and for exactly the reason you gave above but every dog in the street can see the things that Stan is doing the wrong things time and time again. He is utterly clueless and cannot change things mid-game when things aren't going to plan so he can't be considered blameless either. We all like to think we can pick better teams, better formations and know the best way to attack particular opponents and 9 times out of 10 it's a load of crap because the people in charge are there for a reason but some of the decisions he has made have beggered belief

I have to say though, his stubborness and inability to recognise errors / mistakes have been his most annoying trait for me. Everybody appreciates he was not qualified to take the job and that no-one else wanted it so if he came out honestly in his interviews and acknowledged how badly we had performed then I am sure people would appreciate it and give him more credit.

Agree when the time comes for the axe to fall, Delaney should be holding his hand though

If I was you I would head down to one of Mr Paddy Powers fine establishments and put a few bob on that if you are confidant as I would say you would get a decent price on that score.

Sure I heard them on the radio this morning saying they were offering 33-1 for a 2-0 win, don't think it would be worth a euro each way to be honest :)

Not a bad price but should be 40/1 IMO.

Many of his selections remind me of Mick McCarthy's early days when he used to play Ian Harte at center-back every game out of sheer stubbornness.

I am just reading the Irish Independent, someone from BoyleSports said that by yesterday afternoon not even 1000 eueo nationwide had been put on Ireland to win at odds of 4/1.Thats a shocking stat IMO,Boylesports have a lot of shops across the country.

Looks like nobody has confidence we can win this game.

I dont think stan will go if we lose tonight. Delaney wont sack him either because he would then have to go himself, I think these two jobs became linked after he promised a world class manager and then appointed stan

Think you're right Paddy, nothing to gain by getting rid of Stan now and much as the little weasel has tried to distance himself from the appoitment by saying it was a panel decision, Delaney's neck is on the block so he'll be in no hurry to get rid

I just hope we don't kick ourselves in the balls again and find a replacement (or at least sound out some potentials) before getting rid of our current manager this time
