    My predictions.

    Ireland fixtures:
    Slovakia (a) - Draw
    Czech Republic (a) - Draw
    Germany (h) - Draw
    Cyprus (h) - Win
    Wales (a) - Win

    Czech fixtures:
    San Marino (a) - Win
    Ireland (h) - Draw
    Germany (a) - Lose
    Slovakia (h) - Draw
    Cyprus (a) - Draw

Ireland to finish on 22, Czechs on 20.If we can win one of our games against Slovakia/Czech Republic it would be a great help.

If we do qualify after all the setbacks it would be unreal but still have a lot of question marks over Staunton. Fair play to him if he does get us to Austria and Switzerland

Like your optimism Dub13, but unbeaten against Slovakia, Czech & Germany with the first two away?

I won't be making any offerings to PP on it!

Maybe I do have my green specks on but its very possible IMO,and I have us down for a draw with Slovakia and we could well beat them so that would be an exta 2 points.

    Slovakia (a) -
    Czech Republic (a)
If we get 2 points outa these matches we are in with a chance, if we sneak 4, we're there.

Then Stan can stick up the jaxie of the begrudgers.

It is possible, but we would be follish to underestimate Slovakia. I think they could beat us. The Czechs are not as strong as 2 years ago, but are we good enough to win in Prague.

I agree if we get 4 points it would set us up well

The thing with Ireland is we nearly always qualify for the tournaments far away. USA and Japan and Korea, although Germany and Italy weren't that far but at the time the country was in recession

Ireland are capable of going out and getting 4 points in the next two games (2 would be a more realistic aim) but the thing is even if we do get 4 points we are still a long way off qualification. Remember we still have Germany to come and they well and truly steamrolled the Czechs in Prague back in March. Then, assuming Staunton has defied all logic and led us to some decent results in these three games, we have 2 more banana skins to go. Granted we should easily take care of Cyprus this time, but Wales away would be one that would worry me. The Czechs could find no way past them in June, and they almost sneaked a result at Croker, with Bellamy especially guilty of a miss or two. Should we require all 3 points from a trip to Cardiff I wouldn't hold my breath.

in contrast to a previous semi optimisitic post earlier, Ive mulled over this.

I think we can be a banana skin for anyone ourselves. Its unfortunate though we usually are a banana skin for ourselves. In my opinion we have no chance whatsoever of qualifying. Its a fluke we are where we are now. Wales and Slovakia should have beaten us at croker. For F@%*s sake we barely beat bloody san marino and lost to cyprus.
I think we will lose both games in the old Czechoslovakia, lose at home to germany, beat Cyprus and draw or win (it doesnt matter) in Wales.
We have decent players, but the management is a disgrace and a joke and an insult to each player and each one of us as irish football fans. ( its nots stans fault, he was asked to do a job he isnt qualified for).
We need to be humiliated, if Cyprus and san marino isn't considered grossly unfavourable results (and will be I fear) so that a real management team can come in in time for the world cup. We have several players capable of making it to south africa, but with the current set up, they simply wont. That grossly unfair. Stans appointment at the time reminded me of the eurovision edition of father ted (its as if the FAI want to fail). I used to like stan, for his performances for liverpool and ireland, and saw him as an understated genius. All those memories have been replace by a blubbering incompetant laughable idiot. Shame.

My comments may seem anti patriotic, but I first supported ireland and attended matches as a kid in the dismal world cup campaign of 86, when at least we tried, we were up against great sides then (USSR whom we beat 1-0 in dublin in my very first ireland matchm and Denmark, who were amoung the best sides in europe at the time), and have tried to get to as many games in the glory era as well . Now I'm embarrassed by our current efforts. A lot of people have been falsely reassured by two very fortunate victories against 2 poor sides. In my opinion Germany are very poor (favourites for euro 2008 is a joke) and a Czech team whose average age must be close to 50!!! Wales are diabolacle, Slovakia are plucky, but poor, Cyprus should be an easy 6 points (unless you contrive to get hammered by them) and san marino are well, san marino.
The FAI need to take a good look at them selves and ask do they have the best interests of our nation at heart.

megager I think that was very poetically put :) I truly believe there are plenty managers out there who would have taken us to the Alps next summer but the fai couldn't be bothered employ someone who wouldn't be their puppet.
