yeah lyon lost last night so marseille need to go all out to win this one (to move into 2nd/3rd,not entirely sure) to close the gap on the leaders so am hoping they'll be pretty jaded flying in to liverpool monday.

ex Liverpool player Bolo Zenden gets an equaliser in the 2nd minute of extra time. Marseille looked very poor tonight and were lucky not to have lost this match. Final score 2-2 there seemed to be plenty of empty seats at the Stade Velodrome.

They are very bad lately with regards to selling out there ground.

Was at the marseille-lpool game and they couldnt even sell out there allocation for it, was loads of seats all over the ground.

On the game itself it should be 3 points, marseille are not a great team and with alonso should be starting and torres getting back to match fitness and keane playing well in europe, we should have to much for them.

This result means that Marseilles have slipped to 3rd in Ligue 1 behind Lyon & Nice. They are on 27pts from 15 games compared with LFC on 33pts from 14 played.

It's very easy to draw conclusions from these results but we should have too much strength in depth for Marseilles. Unfortunately I was there last year in Anfield for the 1-0 defeat.

While watching tonight's game I could not help but remember Stevie G's wonder strike last September. ;-)

Ticket prices would be the main reason. Ligue 1 prices are similiar to PL prices.

Didn't see the game, but if it was raining, that would have a serious impact on the gate, as the ground is only covered on one side. In general though, the team is better than last year, when the loss of Ribery to Bayern and a bad start ruined the season.

As for RB, he was back to his "focussing and concentrating on the next game" catchphrase yesterday in his press conference. He said it at least thrice.

 Crazy man! He should dwell on the disappointing draw to Fulham a little longer. I'm focusing and concentrating on tonight too, hope the performance (from crowd and team) is better.

any one else hoping we dont need to use Stevie tonight, it would be good to have him for the weekend with out any risk of further damage!

As for tonight this might be a tricky game if we don't get an early goal to settle the nerves which game to the service at the weekend, crowd included.
2-0 win tonight be very welcome.

What would people think of this kind of line up for tonight, going back to the formation that worked so well towards the end of last season.

    ---------Reina-----------

    Arb---Agger---Carra----Aurelio

    -----Lucas----Alonso--------

    ----------Gerrard------------

    -----------Torres-----------

I reckon Lucas will be playing tonight because it would damage his confidence terribly if he was dropped after the abuse he got last saturday and i think he deserves a chance to make up for it. Anyway Benitez was talkinga bout Masch and Alonso being very tired at the moment so one is likely to be dropped.

I think that Babel might get a run following recent comments, lets throw him out there and see what he does, for me -

    Reina

    Arbeloa Agger Carra Aurelio

    Babel Alonso Mascher Riera

    Gerrard

    Torres

Riera & Babel can switch over, Gerrard can drift where he wants. I have a feeling Rafa migth give Dossena a chance tonight, hopefully he can get his form going.

    2-0 Win.

I expect a few changes also, this will be the clubs 10th game in around 5/6 weeks.

Personally I'd rest him too. But there's No Chance of Rafa doing so.

He'll start and probably play 70 minutes or more, but yes I agree with you it'd make more sense to rest him

I'd agree with that lineup. Probably swap Masch or Alonso for Lucas though. Or at least bring him on as a sub in the second half. The guy doesn't deserve the stick he gets and after last Saturday he could do with the backing of the manager.

If we find ourselves comfortably in charge in the second half I'd like to see Keane and El Zhar brought on as well.

Babel to start though. He wants a chance to shine. Give it to him. He asked for it.

I'm in two minds about this myself, Gerrard won't be playing if he's not fit and i don't think Benitez would risk him either, i reckon he was fit for the weekend but Benitez left him out to assure any england doubters that he was genuinely injured.
If he's fully fit he must play tonight
