Is it just me or is there is complete lack of decents DVDs and cinema releases lately? Even on Sky Movies, I can't seem to find anything decent that I have not seen before. Maybe it was the writers strike?

I ended up having to get Forgetting Sarah Marshall out on DVD at the weekend (It turned out to quite good even though that toolbox Brand is in it - I had been avoiding it because he was in it).

Reviews have been poor for Pride and Glory, James Bond and last few pacino movies. Maybe I am paying too much attention to reviews and its turning me off going to cinema. I usually find www.rottentomatoes.com a good reference though.

Anyone recommend any decent Cinema or DVD releases that I may have missed?

yeah the last few months have been slow alright, have found myself downloading alot of bonds, and old 80/90's arnie and sylvester movies lol,but i watched 2 the other day that weren't bad, linewatch(cuba gooding jr) and traitor(don cheedle, guy pierce),traitor was very good imo.transsiberian(woody harrelson, ben kingsley) is another that was okish.

Didn't see that one but it sounds a bit like 'Wolf Creek', which was a pretty decent movie along those lines.

I got rid of Sky Movies because of this. No need for it if you're a regular cinema goer and a member of your local DVD rental store.

I too was surprised with Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Brand must have been just told to play himself in that one. If you haven't seen them already then maybe you should check out Superbad and Knocked Up.

Went to see Quantum of Solace at the weekend and thought it was decent enough. Everything you would expect from Bond apart from the lack of gadgets.

Pacino has been rubbish for years imo. His overacting "style" does my head in.

Saw The Happening last weekend. One or two jumpy bits but the seriously bad acting (maybe it's because the script is so bad) makes it difficult for me to recommend this one!

had a great premise for a decent film but you are right imo,the script was shocking.

+1 on that. One of the films of the year for me.

It's been a slow few months alright but there's still good stuff about.

I recommend Burn After Reading. Good stuff from the Coen bros.
    The new Bond is good.
Hunger is winning awards at film festivals and is out now (I think)
The new Oliver Stone movie about George Bush, "W", is getting good reviews too.
Don't Ed Norton and Colin Farrell have a new movie out soon too.
The new comedy by Kevin Smith, Zach and Mimi make a Porno looks good.

The original Joy Ride with Paul 'Fast and the Furious - Dude' Walker was excellent and was written JJ Abrams of Lost/Alias/Fringe fame. This sequel sounds iffy to say the least.

There are 2 direct to DVD movies I got on Blu Ray from the US recently, Rest Stop: Dead Ahead and its sequel Rest Stop: Dont Look Back that are fairly good if you like low budget gory stuff and is done by one of the main guys behind the show Supernatural.

Gone Baby Gone is definitely worth a watch...even if it's just to laugh at the Boston accents. They make Ardee ones sound normal.

Also watched the new Indiana Jones effort last night. I'm a lot more cynical than I was when I first saw Raiders of the Lost Arc but this will easily pass a few hours of your life.

maybe the writers strike has affected the here and now, apparently the new bond script was rushed in just before the strike so filming could begin.
