Going to London next month for a non-football related trip. Anyone got any recommendations for a nice reasonably priced central London hotel.

    Thanks,
    W

    Hi mate,

Stayed in this place last year, great location, near to Oxford St, West End, Convent Gardens, etc and fairly decent price considering its location

    .

Thanks Sean. My other half is coming with me so Oxford St and West end are indeed two requirements for hotel location. :D

if you check out www.lastminute.com in the hotel section they have a section called top secret hotels. Basically you pick your dates and what star rating your after and it brings up options of which hotels are heavily discounted for the nights your after.

You don't find out the name of the hotel till the last minute but you know the general area. I have friends who have used it and got 4/5 * hotels for a fraction of the price.

Worth a look especially if you want to impress the missus!

Booked Thistle Marble Arch in the end. Got a good deal through asiarooms.com - 100euro cheaper than hotels.com for 3 nights B&B.

I've stayed in the Marriott Maida Vale a few times. Cheap enough to stay in compared to other central London hotels. The advantage to this hotel is it is 5 mins walk from bakerloo tube station. This line brings you to Oxford St,Piccadilly etc in about 15 mins. Also if you are flying into Heathrow the Heathrow express takes you to Paddington in 15 mins and then its only another three stops for hotel. www.marriott.com

Just back from Thistle Marble Arch - would highly recommend it and booking through asiarooms.com (who now seem to be part of TUI group - ie Thomson Holidays and the owner of Budget Travel upto a few months ago).

This hotel is located on a block on Oxford St but it's entrance is on a parallel side street. I would highly recommend using the National Express A6 bus service for those of you travelling from Stansted. It goes to Victoria but has a stop on oxford Street - directly opp. this hotel. Had considered using Stansted express train but when tube connections was considered the A6 bus was handier and cheaper.

Any questions on this send me a PM.
