Back to the bread and butter of getting more league points against a team we have always beaten in the Premiership.
Keeping up that record would keep us joint top at least. :)

Hope Robbie bags a couple on Sat against the baggies...that would really stick it to eveyone on his back at the moment. Will be great to have Nando back.. boing boing!!!The onion bag will bulge I tell thee
Would be nice to finally take a first half lead in the league this season at Anfield.
I can't take much more of these nail bitting finishes and it's only November. :D
If it's still 0-0 after 75 minutes i'm hooking up a drip full of Tyskie. ;)

Only problem is we did that at Spurs for the first time and look what happened!! (Edit Ah - at Anfield!)
I'm heading over and hoping for a big win for this game, 3 or 4 nil would be lovely

Must win game and yes, I am nervous about it. We havent exactly been banging in the goals lately and every man on the street knows that WBA are going to come and play for a point with 10 men behind the ball. Nothing else needs to be said really.

If Liverpool score early - they will go on and score 3 to 4. Liverpool will dominate possesson wise but will they have the cutting edge that was absent against pompey and madrid. I dont think Torres will start - however I would like to see 2 up front from the start - keane and Dirk with Benny coming in on the right.

The way our other forwards have been 'finishing' I think we may need Torres for this one.

I think and hope Torres starts. We really miss him but have done really well to keep pace without him. No team can afford to be without players of his quality. If he statrs we will win. I am a bit nervous though as it is crucial we score early, if we do we could hammer em, but if its nil-nil on 40 minutes I will be feeling twitchy....Again.

I think he will start and thats why he made the decision himself not to play Tuesday to make sure he was at 100%.
Still Im not happy with the vibe coming off the board that if Torres starts we'll win if he doesnt we may struggle. He didnt play against the Chavs or Pompy and we got the points.

It's probably due to a lack of faith in our other forwards to score regularly.
Kuyt is the only other forward getting goals, and for some reason people still dont have faith in him

I think the Torres factor is as much about the fear he puts into defenders and goal keepers alike, i'm sure it weighs on a defenders mind for 90 minutes that if he switches off for a second when Torres is around they will most likely concede. No defence has such fear of Keane and Kuyt but its on them to make the most of defenders concentrating on Torres to make space for themselves.
WBA should be there for the beating and i'd like to see Torres starting and hopefully get a few early goals and rest a few lads later on. Would like to see Ngog get a few minutes on the pitch and Babel getting a decent run too.

Yeah its not available in England  but I think I have finally found a bar in Birmingham that shows matches at 3 on a Saturday ( Iv been going drinking at 3 every saturday trying to find one!!) not sure what their source is. So if its on Setanta Ireland, they might be showing it.
I actually will have to have manners in the bar because there will probably be a good crew of Baggie boys watching!!
For what its worth, their 10 men behind the ball tactic might not be as fiercely hard to breakdown as others that have came to Anfield. They have only one win away from home this season, and no draws, and are a little soft centred. Millar has scored 2 in 2 recently, and has decent pace, but the midfield dont seem to support the strikers.

Yeah i think its crucial that we have two strikers up front, even if that means bringing Kuyt up front and putting pennant out on the wing with Gerrard and Alonso in the middle. That 4-5-1 just doesn't work without Torres.

If Torres is not fit, then I say do NOT start him....
Play Keane, Kuyt & Babel with SG running the show behind.
I dont think we need to start Masch in this game either.
We're at home, and Rafa has been playing a lone striker up top, albeit with others running in behind.
This clearly is not doing the trick against the teams who park the bus.
Rafa needs to show intent by going with a really attacking line up from the off.
Let the other team worry about us, big style, from the off I say!!
We've beaten much better teams than WBA this season without FT, we can do this on the weekend.
mada999
06-11-2008, 10:41 PM

show attacking intent at home.. yeah if FT is still not right then leave him out of the team or on the bench... come on the pool!!

i read that benitez has given Spain a least of exercises for Nando to do to protect his hamstring when he is away on international duty as he has come back injured from international duty 3 times in the last 18 months. hopefully we wont loose him again after the next internationals. If he doesnt play tomorrow i hope he doesnt play him against spurs in the carling Cup like he did last year when he was left out on the saturday and came back to score a hat trick in the carling cup against Reading.

i think we need to start winning games by 3 or 4 the odd time. our GD is terrible for the position we are in and if the race is close we need every goal we can get. WB at home is a good opportunity to get some. obviously the win is first and foremost.
Fowler-9-
07-11-2008, 12:21 PM
I'm praying Torres will play tommorrow team should be an attacking one
Reina
Arbeloa Carra Agger Dossena
Kuyt Gerrard Alonso Babel
Keane Torres.
I would like to see us revert to the 4-4-2 as WBA shouldn't pose much of a threat around the middle or going forward. I don't think there is a need for Mascherano tommorrow as the there will be no one breaking from the middle for them that would cause too much problems. Babel to start for me, not because of Riera's performances but because he needs to start finding his groove now. Dossena is more attacking than Aurelio and we need to persist with Keane until his infamous goal streak comes..

Right lads, that's me offline til Monday (I can hear DKing cheering and clapping).
Let's hope the lads grab the 3 points and Arsenal win or draw.
Hopefully Nando will return but either way I feel good about this one, WBA are not a good side at all if we're honest and we have to start winning home games against the likes of them.
Nonetheless they'll get everyone behind the ball and breaking that sort of side down is not our forté.
I'll say 2-0 to the Reds but if it's 0-0 at half-time let's hope the crowd stay with them coz at the end of the day 1-0 and 3 points would do just fine.
Come on the Reds!!

Sounded like he got booed at one stage. But I reckon it might have been in front of the away crowd at the anfield road at the time. Robbie wouldn't be too popular with the west brom crowd, with his former wolves connections.
good call that.

Hopefully not. Rafa should leave him for the game (unless of course there's a fitness issue or in the last minute to let the crowd cheer him off). The 2 goals will be a great confidence boost to Keane and taking him off won't do any good to that.

Job done!. Delighted to see Robbie getting off the mark - that should shut a few on here up for a while!.
Though I was disappointed to see him being subbed as he could well have got the hat trick which would reaally have boosted his confidence. Thought he should have been given the chance to play up front with Nando. Why is that Rafa doesn't allow him to play a full game??. Very frustrating to see him being subbed all the time after 60 or 70 mins

One disappointing outcome from yesterday,(hate to harp on about this old chestnut)but the atmosphere low key, plenty singin in all the usual spots, but plenty not a clue of some of the songs. Was in Annie rd no one singin except me Daz and about 5 others in 120.Annie rd no problem bellowing that keano, keano shite when Robbie scored though.
When you sing(and il give it loads)and its a lone effort among the masses, its generally percieved by the incumbents as yer mans been a gobshite.
Rapturous rounds of applause though when a tackle goes in and the ball goes out over the line, sad it is!!

Two very smart finishes by Robbie, delighted for him to get a couple under the belt. Neither were easy goals, but he took them very well, and his movement was good all through the game. Arebeloas goal was well taken too with nice ball in from Dirk.
We looked comfortable enough throughout the game, although once or twice a bit of pace worried us (Miller on Aureillo) but over all a good solid performance. Hopefully a win on wed, but the eyes should be on next weeks trip to the Reebok. Hopefully Jussi Jaskellinan will have used up all his luck in Saturdays match when he looked unbeatable in goals!!

Good result and 3 points in the bag always makes me reluctant to complain about anything.
But the atmosphere seemed a bit subdued. Not sure why because Keane got his fist league goals, the Mancs had lost and we were clearly heading top of the league.
Jesus if all that doesn't make you want to sing what will it take?

Do you reckon the 530 kick off affects the atmosphere at all? I know it shouldnt obviously, but I'm just trying to see what could be the problem?
By the way, did anyone count the number of back heals played by Liverpool? I think I got 6...but stupid sky didnt show it on football first so I couldnt be a big nerd and get out my note book and watch a re-run :)

Don't know what the problem is. You would've thought a 5.30 kick-off gives people more time to get a few pre-game beers in and should help the atmosphere rather than hinder it. It's sad to hear it so quiet.
I'd say the traveling fans at our game against Chelsea made more noise than all the home fans put together on Saturday

good result, good performance, robbie off the mark, clean sheet, no injuries, torress back, all in all a good saturday!
i hope Robbie isn't used wednesday and is kept fresh for the Bolton game so we can finally see him and Torres together.
i thought Robbie should have been left on to get the hat trick as it did look likely he would nip for it with the way the Albion defence was holding such a high line.
Have to give respect to the Albion fans never stopped all game and when they chanted for Raffa to give them a wave i near pissed me self laughin!
Nice to see our full backs invloved in all our goals after all the negative press they've had lately. Agger still had his customery lapse though, luckily the Borm player wasn't awake for it.
Aureilio is shocking
Yes just go ahead and ignore the 2 goals he was involved in.

Liverpool 3-0 WBA
A good result, although the opposition were quite easy so an expected 3 points. Of course the highlight was Robbie Keane taking two well finished goals with his left foot. Good for him, good for Liverpool, and good for Ireland.
The team lined out sort of 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2, with Alonso and Torres on the bench:
------------ Reina ------------
Arbeloa - Carra - Agger - Aurelio
Benayoun - Gerrard - Masch - Riera
------- Kuyt ------- Keane ----
In practice, Kuyt played more wide right and less forward and Benni roamed as did Stevie. Masch was enough to cut out their threats. The formation was closer to 4-1-4-1 perhaps.
------------ Reina ------------
Arbeloa - Carra - Agger - Aurelio
------------ Masch -----------
Kuyt - Benayoun - Gerrard - Riera
------------ Keane ------------
Whatever, Liverpool players had much more room than they would get in many matches. Liverpool dominate this game, 11 attempts to 4, but it wasnt a high tempo game. Liverpool had the better chances, and once Robbie got his first the result was never in doubt.
Its good to see Robbie score, and with some nice finishes and technique as well. The 1st was a neat 'lift over' and the 2nd was a perfect look-up, spot the goalie, knock it wide and finish. Smart play. He was buzzing then, perhaps too much.
No-one guessed it right on fantasyrafa.com. The main 'mis-pick' was Alonso.
And the good day at the office was rounded off with an appearance fom Torres.
elnino08> Hope Robbie bags a couple on Sat against the baggies.
More of these predictions please ....

Ten of us went over for the game, we all threw ten pound in on Robbie to score first, made the goal all the sweeter when it went in, £450 for the kitty!
Stupid West brom fans should know better than riling up a quality player with chants of "Keane is a reject"... perfect response from Robbie!
But the "Rafa Rafa, give us a wave" chant was hilarious, it was like they'd scored when he waved at em!
Sweet finish from Arbeloa but isn't he suspended now with 5 yellows?

Yeah i though it was a bit disrespectful to the opposition. It seemed to be showboating for the sake of it because we were 2-0 up.
Hope they didn't have a side bet on the number on back heels they could do in a game. A throwback to the Ruddock era ;)

Rafa on the substitution of Robbie Keane:
I also spoke to Robbie about the substitutions before the game. I said, 'I know I am changing you a lot but it is only because we need a different kind of player at certain stages of the game'," said Benitez.
"I didn't want to do it again against West Bromwich because, after his two goals, I was expecting the hat-trick. But we had to win the game, that was the most important thing, and Torres had to play too.
"I'm sure he was thinking, 'Why me? Leave me on the pitch', but I wanted to use the pace of Torres. They were playing high up the pitch.
"You can have sentiment as a manager sometimes but at 2-0 you have to be careful because one goal for them and it becomes very nervous at the end."
Andrew

He has a point in fairness. Change things up, keep the other team on the back foot. Just hope Robbie sees it that way too.
