Most are probably not aware, but this weekend sees the 26th anniversary of Channel 4 commencing broadcasting, the 26th anniversary of when the Mersey soap Brookside was launched, and the 5th anniversary of it's last episode. Here is the ending: What are your memories of the show?
Memories definitely include Jen Elison, but otherwise, there were great characters such as Max, Jimmy corkhill and "Tinhead"...when they went back to the neighbourhood recently, it's in a complete state, even the sign with the name is gone...
loved that show, should never have been cancelled,oh and jen was a great excuse too watch it also what a babe
She was an actress, not a memory. Began watching it in 99, just after the Musgroves were introduced, apart from the intermittent explosion episodes which as in every programme/film, I avoid like the plague. Still had some classic drama at times too. Wonderful theme tune. Show ended at the end of the last contract, due to just 6 men and a dog watching it for the last 5 years, turned off by the never ending storylines. By the end, it had lost the plot completely. Was the first net forum I was a poster on, until that was also closed a month later.
JESUS didnt know this was an indept thread about brookside.:confused plus I think the Jennifer Ellision comment is getting more replies than this s**t thread
This is a thread devoted to Brookie. The Jenny Ellison stuff belongs in the "Nicest bird you fancy" thread. Anyone down at the Dock on matchday, will see the 1998 Parade explosion show on in the Culture Museum constantly. It is one of the more (in)famous episodes which killed 2 characters. Best show imo, was the 1995 Mick-Jenny siege on the parade, where Jenny the stalker took Mick and a copper hostage in one of the flats. Mark Thompson, C4 DG, pulled the plug on Brookie a year before the show ended. He's BBC DG now, who's just taken John Ross's chat show off the air for different reasons. The scene in Post 1 with Jimmy on the Close was filmed in September 2003. The first episode went out, on the week we beat the toffees 5-0. The last show was aired on November 4th, as the 2nd was a Sunday when there was no show on. It was only going out one Tuesday a week by then.
Used always watch it in the 90s. Ron Dicko, Jimmy Corkhill and Mick Jonno. I do remember the storyline in the mid 90s when the brother and sister were 'doing the business'. I was at the Liverpool Arsenal game and was sitting beside the guy who played the father and the boy who played the son. They were getting loads of stick
Mypost You asked what are our memories of the show and thats my memory sorry if it didnt comply with yours.m Next time put up a list that you want us to remember
Was that the league game or league cup game? That was one of the worst storylines, which kickstarted Brookside's demise.
FORMER Brookside actor Dean Sullivan wants to buy the famous set where he made his name. The 53-year-old today told of his plans to raise around £600,000 for the available houses. The actor who played bad boy Jimmy Corkhill said he might transform the 13-house close into a tourist attraction. Because of the credit crunch the asking price for Brookside Close in West Derby has fallen from £2.4m to £600,000. Sullivan plans to send a representative to an auction this month to bid for it. The City Talk DJ, who first spoke of his proposal live on air, declined to say how much he was prepared to pay. But he outlined his vision to revamp the neglected set during a meeting with his bank manager. Sullivan said: “In the present climate anyone who buys a self-contained cul-de-sac like Brookside at any price will get a bargain. “It could be turned into a tourist spot. During my time with the soap there were always crowds of people turning up. “It’s been neglected over the years, but a lot of the damage is superficial. “There is still an enormous amount of interest in Brookside – it would be a tragedy to knock it down.†The cul-de-sac has lain empty since the Channel 4 soap was axed in 2003 after 21 years. Brookside creator Phil Redmond paid £25,000 per house in 1982 for the three and four-bedroom properties. Developers bought the properties in 2005. All 13 were refurbished and it was hoped they could go for £300,000 each. Financial conditions have seen auctioneers Allsop list the 1980s properties with a guide price of between £550,000 and £600,000. According to financial experts, to borrow £600,000 from the bank, Sullivan would have to put down £180,000 and pay £25,000 a year in interest. The close was the setting for some of TV’s most controversial storylines including Anna Friel’s lesbian kiss and the body buried under the Jordaches’ patio. Sullivan also claimed tentative talks were under way to revive the soap. Figures in the TV industry have hinted they want to bring Brookside back to the screen, although in a different format. Rumours are circulating that the programme could resurface on a digital or satellite channel.
BROOKSIDE Close has been sold at auction to a mystery bidder for £735,000. The entire close of 13 houses in West Derby had been put up for sale with a guide price of around £550,000. At an auction in London today, the cul-de-sac sold for the equivalent of £56,000 each. Former Brookside actor Dean Sullivan told the Echo last week he was interested in snapping up the houses, but he did not attend the auction at the capital’s Cumberland Hotel. He has confirmed he was not the buyer. A spokesman for auctioneers Allsop said: “It was a good result as we were guiding it at £550,000. “We won’t have any information about the bidder until the contracts have been exchanged later today.â€
