Siamo could be a target for us come January.
It would be important for us to show him what he is missing......{and then Jamie can kick the legs off him}
Jamie has to start, if not for his confidence then at least for being preferential to Arbeloa at CB:eek:
I would hazard
-----------------------------REINA----------------------------------------
------Arbeloa----------CarrAgger--------------------------------Dossena
----------------------------Mascherano-----------------------------
------Benny-----------------Gerrard----------------------------Babel
-------------------N'Gog--------------Torres--------------------------
Keane, and Diggler and Alonso and Riera need rests. Plain as.

Yes, I made that comment in haste after the Spurs game.
Still, I think we can escape by playing Torres and N'Gog- Keane, Riera, Alonso and Kuyt all MUST REST.
Babel, N'Gog, Gerrard, Torres....if there isnt a goal in there I dont know where there is!
In fact. Drop N'Gog and play Lucas, might take the strain off Steven.

Bollocks to that anyway! All four of them will surely be key members of the team on Tuesday night. Rafa isn't gonna go fannying about resting the likes of these against a team like Athletico Madrid, in the European Cup of all competitions. And its four days before West Brom come to our patch so not like we'll need to rest them all so far away from the next game.

Thats one way to look at it. I call it the Giles method. Go 2-0 up and then when the "game is won" make your changes.
For ****s sake tho, somebody give Diggler the NIGHT OFF.
Interesting to see how the plebs treat our boys this Tuesday night in the buildup.
Will we get credit for Chelsea and Pompey, or are we as good as our last game only??

Beat Atletico and we are home and dry, so I can see your logic, but this is a critical moment in our season, so a lot has to be got right on the night, and I cannot see changes not being made. I am almost sure now that Lucas will come in and so will Pennant, Babel and Torres.
In fact, I will put forward my final team for Atletico as being
-----------------------------REINA------------------------------------
-----Arbeloa------------CarrAgger------------------------------Aurelio

Atlético to travel to Liverpool on Monday and train at Anfield in the evening
The expedition of Atlético de Madrid will take off for Liverpool on Monday 3 November at 11:00 am. The charter flight will take off from T3 at Barajas Airport and is scheduled to land in England at 12:15 pm (local time). The players and the coaching staff will head directly to Hotel Marriot Liverpool, where the team will be staying.
After th habitual ‘siesta’, the team will travel to Anfield to get a read on the pitch on which they will take on the squad directed by Rafa BenÃ*tez. At 6:30 pm, Javier Aguirre and one footballer from the ‘rojiblancos’ will appear before the media, and at 7 pm their training session will begin.
For their part, Liverpool will train on Monday at 10:30 am, in Melwood, their normal training grounds, and Rafa BenÃ*tez, accompanied by a footballer from the ‘Reds’, will hold a press conference at 1:15 pm in Anfield.

Tony Barrett, who writes for the Liverpool Echo, says he saw Javier recently and that the lad is ABSOLUTELY shattered. Totally bushed.
I know Lucas is lightweight, but there is nothing light about the Pompey lads and he did okay in there.
I think he might be better suited to playing against the likes of Simao and pals than the WBA lot.

Well lads i think that they're might just be something in this resting players on tuesday idea. I know its fairly early in the season and all but we've ended up having to play some very draining games already this season. We've had so many late comebacks that i can't keep track of them all and the only reasonably comfortable game we've had so far is the Derby. It could have something to do with why the team failed to recover after conceeding the goal against spurs at the weekend if the players are that tired.
I certainly think that Kuyt needs a break, he's been flat out for weeks now. Masch looks like he hasn't really recovered from all his travels for the international break and Riera's looking fairly tired too.
I'd go 4-4-2 with the usual defence (Aurelio back for Dossena), Gerrard and Alonso in the middle, Babel on the left Pennant/benni on the right and torres and keane up front.

Fernando Torres is winning his fitness race to be involved against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.
The Liverpool striker is battling to overcome a hamstring injury in time to play a part against his former club, when the Reds will be looking for the victory which could secure qualification into the knock-out stages of the competition.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv this morning, manager Rafael Benitez said: "Fernando has been working really, really hard and doing good work with the physios.
"He trained yesterday and will train again today and then we will see. I would say he has a 70 per cent chance of featuring in the game.
"Atletico Madrid was his first club and now he is with Liverpool - two big clubs with lots of fans who love him, so this is massive for him."
looks like he's a certainty to play some part against madrid, glad to have him back.

Thats interesting, now we know he was not fit at all for Spurs. Wonder what the "experts" will say. Rafa did the right thing. Leave him out. There are NO MORE International competitive games till February. Let him get fit, then unleash him.
In the mean time........http://www.thisisanfield.com/news/2008/11/torres-%E2%80%9C70%E2%80%9D-to-fitness/
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez says that striker Fernando Torres has a 70% chance of playing in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against his former club, Athletico Madrid at Anfield.

i wouldnt risk torres, the team we used in the away game is good enough to beat madrid tonight, maybe with the inclusion of kuyt and aurelio for benni and dossena, although i think we'll see torres at some stage as he missed the first game, maybe last 10-15 minutes.

Hope you are right Reder but I fear that's exactly what will happen
He will declare himself fit I have no doubt at all. Remember Carra against the bitters when he declared himself fit to play them and had a mare and thats a team we play every season, there is no telling when or if Liverpool will face Atletico again in a competitive match so its hard to believe he wont try and play.
That said if withdrew himself from this game Id have even more respect for him than I do now as that would hurt him personally to do it putting Liverpool first but you really cant blame him if he chances his arm to play. If he gets injuried fans will be annoyed with him but they wont take a pop at him as they will accept his reasons for playing while not fully fit. Beside on paper anyway we shouldnt need him for the 7 games we have coming up against the so called 'smaller teams'.

He's either fit to play or not.
This injury was only meant to keep him out for 3 games, but has already kept him out for 5, and we're still worried about playing him.
He's going to have to play at some point, and I think he will, probably not for the full game though.

Nor for the right reasons. Reder was right, He'll end up playing in this game because he wants to, not because he ought to
Rafa will decide whether he starts or not but it will be based on what torres is telling Rafa and the physios, and Torres will want to play big time.
Ideally it's best to rest him in this one but it won't happen

I don't know how true this is but i do remember reading somewhere that Torres was terribly upset when he came off during the spain game because he couldn't understand why he kept getting injured. If that is true then i can't see him rushing back to play and possibly injuring himself again coming into a string of games that he will fancy he can probably score a lot of goals in. But i do understand that he will really want to be playing against Athletico but i think if he plays it will only be if he feels he's ready for it.

Thats right Souness, Liverpool attacked so much in the old days they passed the ball back 30 times in 10 mins vs Arsenal and still lost 0-2. These guys have the memories of disadvantaged fleas.
I love the way Torres is not playing, and then they say Liverpool dont have creative players.
Keane, Kuyt, Torres, Gerrard, Riera...plenty of talent.
Then they chime in and say Riera is holding back.
Then Dunphy chimes in and says that Rieras job was to stop Boswinga and Kuyts was to stop Cole. I mean, HELLO, SORRRRRY, but it WORKED and CHELSEA LOST. Way to gloss over that fact.
And Graham, the Chelsea game was 8 days ago. Not 2 weeks.
Somehow, Scolaris method of playing, and Benitez method of stopping him, is all a black mark against Rafa.
Its piss poor, and the taxpayer should get a rebate for this crap.

Corner Atleti, Ray speaks of the danger of failing to mark the post, Simao delivery, Forlan glanced it, Liverpool burst, here comes Tommy Mash, Alonso....HANDBALL!! REF SAYS NO! Feck..he is giving us nothing. Mash is down, Atleti plays on and Simao over the top
The ref is screwing us here, no penalty and no stop in play for Mash. And they nearly score.

Atleti will doubtless look to counter the shit out of us 2nd half, the problem now is that Gerrard has decided to have an off night, we need sustained pressure, Arbeloa and Kuyt, two old favourites, will come in for roastings from Aymo except this time they deserve it. Same as with Spurs, it could be 4 nothing instead, they score. If Babel comes on it has to be for Mascherano and NOT KEANE.

He's essentially a cretin these times. But what wants to make me throw something at the telly is how Robbie ****ing Keane was undertaking to exercise all his energies chasing the ref at a decision that was never gonna be given instead of chasing it down. have 2 listen 2 asshole humpty dunphy now bout how shit we were.
Well, it's ridiculous to vent on sconers like them. A comment by one punter above is what matters. What they say will be what we all know in our hearts anyway, which is, we were awful and a bad decision ultimately got us off the hook. Never want to see a display like this again. Kept going though. Taht is one good thing that stands to Liverpool.
