I have used some of those, however I am now staying away from P2P that you download to your machine as I got a virus from using TVAnts. Dont know how it got on as i have latest Virus software running and was watching Villa and Chelsea when the machine froze. Once I restarted the machine was very slow and when I ran spybot it found some trojan crap, once I ran NAV, it picked it up. Just a word of warning to make sure you have latest virus software installed before running any of them programs!!!
Hi mate Can you please post a link to the fix and the virus you got, so if anyone else gets it then can come here and quickly find the solution ? Thanks
It was a few weeks ago so can't remember the exact name, was trying to look through the history and the name was 'Bla Trojan horse' is in the logs for that date. I use a tool called spybot which picks up spyware on your machine that Antivirus software does not. http://www.spybot.info/
i still use sopcast and ppmate to watch pool matches that im not ator arent on sky or setanta. TVants software also brought a virus on to my pc that i had trouble removing. Peer to peer technology will always come with a threat of viruses. make sure your using good anti virus, simple as that
Actually, a good firewall is far more important than good anti-virus. Anti-virus should be your last line of defense. I haven't watched any games online via P2P. I never will. Far to dangerous.
Thanks carragherisgod. That's what i meant to say.I was abit sleepy last nite writing that post. I used zonealarms free firewall application and it messed up my web browsing, so i removed it from my pc, that's why i got a virus in while using the P2P applications for the live footy.
I have to admit i have watched half our games this season via P2P and no problems yet.....suppose im asking for it though eventually!
My laptop has slowed down a lot in the last few weeks and i'm pretty sure its because of sopcast and the like. AVG isn't picking up any viruses though
I'm repairing a PC this weekend for a friend (going to reinstall his operating system) but before I do that I might try one of these P2P things for a laugh
