Was reading this morning that Stevie Finnan has pulled out of the Irish squad. If so why has Stevie G' been allowed to travel with England.Do we owe England anything NO !! So why do we have to send an unfit Gerrard off with England just cause Lampard is out. Stevie G has missed the last 3 match cause he is unfit, Sunderland, Toulouse and Derby. So why do we send hiim off half fit to rescue England. And I'm not sayin this to be aunty English. If Stevie Finnan missed the last 3 games or any other player they sholud never be allowed to go on international duty. If Mourinho or Ferguson had a player out for 3 game theres not a chance the English doctors would get to see them. They would have been pulled out 2 weeks ago. No paper talk, nothing just the players out end of story. Two week rest would be a nice little break for Stevie before some very tasty games coming up. Stevies our player ,we pay his wages, we should deside if he's fit or not.

Probably because he wants to play for England so bad, he hates missing games of any sort. He wouldn't be a happy lad if Rafa stopped him going. Is there not a chance Finnan could be fit for Sat anyway, thought he just remained behind 'cos he would get better medical attention at Melwood than he would with Ireland

I know he's club captain and deserves all the respect in the world. But 3 game out and he's off with England. If he comes back from international duty with another knock it will be blamed on Rafa for leting him go. He sholud be told to sit it out...

It wasn't worth the risk playing him in those 3 games, as shown by the results. I'm sure he could of played if desperately needed maybe this time last season he would of played with a series of injections.
Now he has rested for 3 weeks the injury is probably healed more or less hence why he is away on international duty.

By the way theres nothing I'd love more for him not to be risked in the internationals but at the end of the day its his decision and the medical staff at Melwood

Don't think Finnan has pulled out of the squad, he's stayed in Liverpool to get some treatment before joining up with the squad later in the week. Still a chance he could play had the weekend although he is rated doubtful.

Really think Rafa could have sorted this two weeks age. By pulling Stevie out of the England squad. We all knew with the games we had, we could have rested Stevie. But rest him for us, not Englands benifit. Theres no way if he played for the Man u or Chelsea he'd be in the squad. And I don't buy this Stevie wouldn't be happy. He plays for us. Rafas his boss. End of story, what Rafa says goes. Nothing should get in the way of winning the Prem' not England not Stevies feelings.

If he's not medically fit enough to play, he shouldn't play. end of.
If he is fit enough and it won't aggrivate his injury let him play.
It's up to the clubs medical guys IMO.

If Steven Finnan is/was fit he apparently was going to play leftback(where he has quite a bit) and O'Shea rightback.

Is O'Shea not left footed or am i just thinking that ?

Steve Finnan is doubtful so I hear. Maybe the extra few years he has on Stevie is more crucial when dealing with injuries.

Regarding Stevie, I think that it is stupid to let him play. If his toe is not fully recovered playing these games will surely put him out for a further few games for Liverpool. Our next two games are Pompy away and Birmingham at home. We really need him for Pompy away. We lost there last year and I know that it was a sub-par team because of Athens but it really is a tough place to go and get a result. Ask Rio Ferdinand!! I doubt if he has an injection on Saturday he will be able to play on Wednesday no matter how hard he wants.

I don't want a Rafa V McLaren media fight to happen eithir.

Gotta agree with most on here. There is no way in hell if he played for the scum or chavs that he would be in the squad Saturday for Engerland.I dont think rafa gets much wrong but should have put his foot down here.If he cant play for us there is no way he can play for Engerland:mad:

Think your some of ya are being abit naive here. Why did Paul Scholes give up internatinal football so early. Cos' Fergie told him too. Why did Giggs never play a friendly game for Wales cos' Fergie told him not to. Rafa should only be thinking about Liverpool football club, nothing else, Not Engerland or Stevie G. Only what best for us !!

Totally agree! This could be our biggest season in years and we need Stevie fit for the big games. I know we didn't miss him the last three games but who were we playing!! No way should he be risked if hes not fully over this injury.

Firstly, Steve Finnan has not pulled out of the Irish squad - he will be joining up with the rest of the squad tomorrow or Thurday at the latest. He's opened up a wound in his knee but has every chance of playing against Slovakia.

As for Stevie G, I think if he's fit enough to play for England then he should play for England. Rafa probably had it in the back of his mind for the past 3 games that Stevie was going to be playing for England, hence why he wasn't going to gamble on him for the past 3 relatively easy games. In fairness, if he could play over 2 weeks ago against Chelsea with the injury, there is no reason why he won't be able to play for England next week.

Firstly Stevie Finnan has pulled out of the Irish squad, Secondly my point was that this is our biggest chance to win the Prem' since the 'spice boys' under Roy Evans. Nothing should be gambled. And desperate managers do desperate things. And clearly Steve McClaren is a manager under pressure. Stevie G. has missed his last 3 club games he should never been aloud to join up with Engerland..... Rafa asks Engerland not to inject Stevie so he can play. Fair enough you'd think. McCLaren say's this morn on BBC ' England have not ruled out the possibility of giving Steven Gerrard an injection so he can play in Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel. Absolute JOKE !!!!

Your not letting that one go are ya ;) Finnan never joined up with the squad in the first place, he stayed behind at Melwood to get treatment on that knee, and is due to fly in today to join up with the rest of the squad. He has a decent chance of making the Slovakia game, and will definitely start against the Czech's. Thats the story coming from the Irish coaching staff anyway.

As for Stevie G, you make some good points, particularly the one about him getting an injection. It concerns me slightly that if he gets an injection it'll mean he'll miss the Portsmouth game Saturday week. But I don't think going on about us having our best chance in years of winning the title has any bearing on whether he should play for England or not.

O'Shea is right-footed, but is very comfortable using his left.

I know it might be out of contexted but what would you rather:

Liverpool winning the League?

Ireland qualifing for Euo 2008?

I know which one I want.

I'm not sure which I'd prefer between Liverpool winning the League and Ireland Winning Euro 2008- so I guess you know my answer.
