The economy all round us, by that I mean the world and not just little old Ireland, is falling to pieces. The action of the government in providing the bank guarantees has actually saved us from a world of incredible financial pain and now good old SIPTU are going to jump in with both feet and push for an all out strike. Even in the good old days, I couldnt stop myself thinking that the unions lived in cloud cuckoo land. At this moment in time, a strike is the last thing any airline needs, let alone Aer Lingus which is losing money hand over fist. With other airlines going bust, surely they (unions) should be trying to save the airline and in turn some of the jobs of their members. I have booked travel with Aer Lingus in October and November and I am not convinced that my flights will go ahead. I expect massive travel chaos and all out strikes with Aer Lingus over the next few months.
The whole world is F**ked, seriously, i wish the world wasnt so relient on money to go around. I hate having to have a job to survive, not that im lazy, i dont mind working and actually on occasion enjoy my job. But i hate that because of greed of already super rich people, tommorrow or two weeks time or whenever, i could be unemployed, and because of economic bullcrap, potential employers are scared of taking on people almost now. BRING BACK BARTER
yes they should do that then fly over every city and town throwing it from the plane in bucketloads solving everyones problems until they waste it all on sweets and xbox games then were back to square one
reder id disagree that siptu are in cloud cuckoo land over this one.your talking around 1500-2000 people losing their jobs being on the dole and draining the public coffers yet again.why cant the head of aer lingus take a pay cut??no fear of him not being able to pay his mortgage or look after his kid.and that goes for all them bank heads too.some of them earn three million a year.they should all take a cut to help bail out their respective companies
A friend of mines dad works for aerlingus and was on the radio this morning about all this and he seems to think a strike is useless as they are looking to get rid of nearly everyone anyway. Another XL incident i reckon .
We all could be unemployed soon. I recently changed my job from contracting with a company to a more stable permanent company in the financial sector. I am only here from 6 months, please god, as I have something else planned for early next year. Two points on this. Firstly, their earnings would be nothing compared to the savings from the cuts and I can 100% guarantee you that heads will roll in the upper echelons of the banks and major corps when the current unrest subsides. I actually expect most of them will walk before they are pushed.
The Weimar Government tried that in Germany after the wall street crash in 1927 (i think) and it resulted in hyper inflation. The people had loads of paper (money) but it was worth f all cos the price of everythin shot right up..... Then a nice man came and told the starving people of Germany who didn't trust their democratic government anymore, that he'd save them. His name was Adolf Hitler. FU*K that like .. haha...... Leaving cert history (sat it in June) rears its ugly head
i hope your right on the heads rolling situation.banks lended recklessly.when i got mortgage approval three years ago i looked for 250000 after myself and the other half done all the sums that was our limit.when we were approved we were told we could get a fair bit more if we wanted.we said no and the house worked out at 237500 at the time.we got 100% mortgage and some months are a struggle now and if we had taken more wed be sunk.and thats only my experience im sure theres thousands out there in a similar/worse position than we are. this aer lingus thing if it goes to strike could be the first of many imo.i know agreements are being tested to the limit where i work at the minute and i have a feeling we will be back in the labour court soon.going to happen everywhere especially when(yes when)the new pay deal gets rejected.
