Not long now to the International Rules series between Ireland and Australia, the games being 24th October in Perth, and 31st October in Melbourne.

Sean Cavanagh, fresh from his man of the match performance in the all ireland, has been named Irish captain for the series.

How do yous feel the games will go? i hope that we can hold our own, though I fear the Aussies will be too much for us.

With Boylan at the helm you'd be fairly confident the lads will perform. We'll need an engine like Seamus Moynihan to carry us through! I'll reserve judgement till I see the squad!

2001 tour in Oz he was the only player on either squad to play all games and every single minute of each game.......he was by far the outstanding player of the tournament!! Being from Cork has nothin to do with it....or what he did while playing against Cork! When he played International Rules he was always pivotal to our vitories. Leave local rivalry out of it...he was outstanding and my point is we need a player of his calibre to be on the team and to perform as he performed in order to beat the Australians! I think Cavanagh can be that player if we dont get "involved" with the Aussies off the ball!

    No.
This game requires very athletic, very physical, fast men. If we go the route of trying to mix it with the Aussies we are screwed, our only chances are if we try to out football them and keep the ball moving at speed. Although we were out footballed the last time we played in Ireland, so I'm not sure if i hold much confidence for this time around either.

To be honest, International Rules is not a game I have much interest in.

Tyrone & Kerry dominate Ireland squad - RTE.ie

Irish manager Sean Boylan has announced his International Rules squad for the tour to Australia later this month.

All-Ireland finalists Tyrone and beaten finalists Kerry are well represented with four players each but there are a couple of surprises.

The 27-man squad is made up of players from 14 different counties and is captained by Tyrone's Seán Cavanagh.

Meath's David Gallagher will act as the team's goalkeeper, while Colm Begley of the Brisbane Lions has been selected to compete against some of his AFL colleagues.

There is no place for Kerry's Colm Cooper, as Boylan has opted to go for size and strength over skill.

The first Test will be played in Perth on 24 October with the second Test fixed for Melbourne on 31 October.

    Irish International Rules squad:

Seán Cavanagh (Tyrone), Graham Canty (Cork), David Gallagher (Meath), Colm Begley (Brisbane Lions/Laois), Paddy Bradley (Derry), Bernard Brogan (Dublin), Benny Coulter (Down), Bryan Cullen (Dublin), Kieran Donaghy (Kerry), Leighton Glynn (Wicklow), Finian Hanley (Galway), John Keane (Westmeath), Aaron Kernan (Armagh), Ciarán Lyng (Wexford), Steven McDonnell (Armagh), Enda McGinley (Tyrone), Ciarán McKeever (Armagh), Joe McMahon (Tyrone), Justin McMahon (Tyrone), Michael Meehan (Galway), John Miskella (Cork), Aidan O'Mahony (Kerry), Pearse O'Neill (Cork), Tom Parsons (Mayo), Kevin Reilly (Meath), Tommy Walsh (Kerry), Killian Young (Kerry).

Standby: Aidan Carr (Down), Ronan Clarke (Armagh), Paul Finlay (Monaghan), Conor Gormley (Tyrone), Kevin McCloy (Derry), Martin McGrath (Fermanagh).

bad move putting size over skill,we should have picked quick and athletic players, the aussies are naturally bigger and this could be a disaster.

I don't think the same intrest from the public is there anymore for this sport. The last series was a disaster and I'm dissapointed that it wasn't abandoned alltogether. The only people who seem enthuisastic about it are the ones that are getting the trip including the journalists and officials.
