Norton advice.

Hi,

I have eircom broadband and get norton off them too but i have been told by a few people that norton is no good and slows the computer down etc etc.

I have been recommended BitDefender.Total.Security.2009.

I was also told the agv isn't that good at catching viruses and is only commonly used because its free( which is always a good thing).

Im thinking of getting eircom to take norton off my bill and get in bit defender in . Is this enough protection on its own ? or If I did this do I need to get spybot in too or a similar tool ?

Not great at this stuff.

I also use vista too in case this effects things .

I used to have Norton and yeah, it slowed the pc down. Now I use avg and its fine but I dont visit high risk sites such as file sharing sites.

AVG is the best free anti virus software you can get online. I have been using it for 2 years with no hassle and no charges. I work for NTL broadband and we got tonnes of calls about norton slowing down speeds . Id never recomend them.

For viruses its good but still regardless of what antivirus you have you will always be at risk because people will always be downloading off you ( which slows you down anyway) and if they have viruses you may get them.

All il say is I use limewire and download from it every so often and since using AVG havent got a virus . AVG updates daily but new viruses bring new risks so you can always get caught but avg has done the job for me so far .

It runs scans every day automatically and removes any threats when you turn on the pc so i doubt you will get any. Norton on the other hand when it scans doesnt actually get rid of them it just tells you they are there and you have to remove them youself.
