With Carra injured and while Sami should be ok to play with his broken nose, It shows how short of cover we are at CB now that Heinze has buggered of to Madrid and the average Palletta has returned to Argentina. Should we buy a new centre back?? (Yes IMO) and if so who? Maybe Davis of West brom? I'm struggling to think of another who would be available. If not and Sami is struggling or Agger gets injured who will or who should Rafa play at CB? Aerobla? Alonso ?Riise? or maybe promote Jack Hobbs from reserves?What does everyone think??
Hobbs is not ready i think for first team football we need to try and find a solution before the window shuts. I wouldn't be suprised if Rafa tried to sign Daniel Bonera or Phillipe Mexes before this Friday otherwise he will go back to Spain and sign someone from there.
Defo need cover at Centre half. Kind of glad Carra got this knock now as if it was next weekend the transfer window would be shut and we could have been a bit snookered re getting cover. Think that was one of the reasons Rafa wanted Heinze as he was a good option for cover there. Remember he was interested in Matt Upson before maybe he might have a sniff back there. Shame Titus Bramble signed for Wigan or it would be a no brainer...
Defo need defensive cover, would like us to go after Chiellini as he could play left back & provide decent cover for centre back ..... & he's a fu#king monster Sami will be OK for tomorrow & Arbeloa can play centre half too so we're not desperate, but I would prefer to get someone in of a decent calibre. I can see us going for an "old pro" - like an Ayala / Walter Samuel type of player Riise gives me the sh1ts playing LB (don't particularly like seeing him LM either but that's another day's debate ) never mind putting him in at CB and Alonso wouldn't be commanding enough for that position. Someone mentioned Curtis Davis but I can't see Rafa spending £10m on a player who hasn't played consistantly at a high level or the guts of that sum of Upson who has an injury record that would compete with our 'Arry
unless its a really good left back, they are not going to get in to the team so who will come to sit on the bench with carra, agger and possibly hyppia ahead of them
10 mill is a bit much for davis alright. I do think if 2 of our three centre halves get injured arebola will be the one to stand in. cant see mexes or Bonera being let go by roma and Ac milan. ayala has just joined zaragoza so don't think they would be willing to sell him. We were tentatively linked with Helguera some time back but he's gone to Valencia. Knew Ayala had been transferred, was referring to him purely as an example of the type of player I can see us recruiting. Agree about Mexes as they've already lost Chivu this summer, would imagine that Milan wouldn't be too against the idea of letting Bonero go but have never been too impressed by him to be honest Time will tell I suppose

Earlier it was rumoured we were after the Honey-Monster Richard Dunne, in the light of things he would have been an excellent signing but knowing Rafa he will suprise us come deadline time Friday.
Good shout but he'd never of been a first teamer. A name that has popped up a couple of times over the summer is Scharner off Wigan and hes a decent enough player and wouldnt cost too much. Insua was signed over the weekend and can cover left back so I'd be more worried about centre half as Aurelio is back training. If we go abroad it'll probably be a Spanish player but Kompany has been linked in the past and would be a great signing.

No his agent has just been angling for a move all summer. Hes a good U21 International but we'll be paying the guts of £7m for him and its a big risk. Ive also been happily surprised at Arbeloa's performances at left back so I don't think we need to sign one and Chiellini wont want to go from the Juventus first team to our bench. Kompany is a Belgian centre half. All the big clubs were after him a couple of years ago but he got a shoulder injury (Chelsea bid £15m for him but Anderlecht turned it down). He moved to Hamburg in 2006 for €8m but picked up another injury and has only played 6 games. Hes back fit again and we could probably get him for a decent price. Hes the same age as Chiellini but has Champions League and International experience
definitely, he is playing very well at centre back this season but he is not gonna come here to warm the bench is he
Think the crux of things will be whether the potential signing is goina be happy with splinters in his backside.

if its a punchered lung and a broken rib he could be out 4 more than a month or even longer. so we need a experianced defender if its that long some 1 like richard dunne or some1 in that department. hyppia is a great deffender and would be grand against the likes of sunderland but the like of the mancs and other big teams i think we would be putting alot of pressure on agger and hyppia with hypia he,s lost a bit of pace and sharpness. that we need if were going to go all the way this year its a well known fact we need a new centeral defender to compete with agger aswell so why not get 1 now
ok mayby not dunne but some 1 that can win the ball and that can link up with agger and carra whenever playing
Arbeloa looked more than capabale on saturday for the last 20 mins of doing a job....Hobbs in my opinion wont ever be ready for the 1st team. cant see him a future Liverpool centre half.. Distin would have been a great option in the summer....pity!
