Reds investigate Liverpool Sir Alex Ferguson has promised United will "not let Liverpool off" in an investigation into the Anfield club's conduct in the recent Gabriel Heinze affair. While the Reds boss said he had no qualms with Heinze, a player he described as a "warrior" for the club during his three years at Old Trafford, he did express his frustration at the 29-year-old's agent and recent comments made by Rafael Benitez. Heinze joined Real Madrid this week, but the move only came after a failed, drawn-out attempt to join Liverpool, which ended with a three-man Premier League panel ruling against the player's claims that a letter signed by Reds chief executive David Gill gave him license to sign for United's rivals as the stated fee had been met. "We are looking at Liverpool's whole role in this," said Sir Alex on Friday. "We are not letting them off with it. That is what we are investigating." Asked whether it was a case of 'tapping up' Heinze, he responded: "David Gill is working on it at the moment. We will get to the bottom of it and see how it comes out. "I've got no axe to grind with Gaby whatsoever," he added. "The issue without question is how much he listened to us rather his agent. But, his agent will make his few bob." Sir Alex was disappointed with Bentitez, who earlier this week was astonished that the Premier League arbitration panel's decision had not gone in their favour, and also claimed that his side are hard done by because of early Saturday kick-offs. "It is disappointing stuff," he said. "He talks about the fixtures. He should have seen our fixtures over over the last two or three seasons. There was never any chance of Liverpool winning that case, so Rafa clearly did not read the Premier League rules."
Investigate what exactly?? Utd backed theirselves into a corner by issuing Heinze the letter so he would have the right to shop around via his agent that cannot be therefore be judged as "tapping up"
Anyway, they can investigate all they want, we weren't involved in the legal dispute. Fergie's obviously pissed as a player he obviously rates was prepared to take legal action just to get out of the club. The Scum hitting out over tapping up allegations ..... the hypocracy in that
Ignore beetroot he got his way with Heinze and Tevez and seems to have the home office in his pocket anytime he wants to bring in South American players unlike the prolonged process we had to go through with Gonzalez and Mascherano. He bosses the FA. The comment about fixtures is a complete joke. The traditional pub get togethers for Sky matches were destroyed last year by twice as many morning KOs as ANY other team. This year I know lads who go to the aways are fuming over morning KOs for Sunderland, Newcastle and worse of all Portsmouth. How many 5:15s did the mancs have last year, a lot methinks. There was a comment from Neville a few years ago about being sick of having pasta for breakfast. Well he isn't anymore as the FA were bossed back into line by beetroot. I couldn't understand why a bigger deal wasn't made about this last year when Moaniho was going on when our fixtures were much worse. Having so many morning aways after international breaks and CL matches is ridiculous and I'd like beetroot or moany to comapre the equivalent fixtures they have to play. Through another shortsighted pattern in the fixtures all of our home/away matches are in unison with the mancs this season (meaning we can't get cheap manc flights and they can't get cheap Pool flights as was always the norm) but obviously if we're playing the morning matches they can't be !
Let’s show Manchester United they’re right to fear us Aug 24 2007 by Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo Rafa Benitez RAFA BENITEZ says Manchester United’s refusal to sell Gabriel Heinze to their bitterest rivals is the biggest signal yet Liverpool are now regarded as genuine title challengers. And now the manager wants his players to take the club’s frustrations onto the park, channelling their energy in a positive way to prove United’s fears of an Anfield revival correct. United used the argument during the Premier League hearing that they wouldn’t sell their players to clubs they regarded threats to their domestic supremacy. Amid the disappointment of losing the case, Benitez accepts this was still a back-handed compliment. “They have shown us they think we are stronger now because they didn’t want us to sign a very good player,†said Benitez. “Now we have to show them they’re right and do everything we can to be even stronger in the future. “This week has been a difficult week for us. We’ve had problems on and off the pitch and we know the reasons why. But now we know we can’t change things so have to be positive moving forward and think about football, particularly in our preparations for Sunderland, and then in all our other games. “When you have a week like we’ve had, sometimes you need to aim to double your standards, and if you get halfway there you’ve still made a big improvement.†Benitez is backing his midfielders to cope with the likely absence of skipper Steven Gerrard in the North East. Momo Sissoko and Javier Mascherano will compete for central roles, with the Argentinian favourite to get the nod. Benitez said: “Steve is a key player for us, but we have a lot of others to choose from. We have a lot of really good midfielders here. I need to check their condition before I decide what to do, but we now they are capable of doing a good job for us.â€
I think slur Alex takes the biscuit here. I would think the last thing he would want is anyone prying into transfer buisness around old trafford way. How many players has he been suspected of tapping up?? Anyway I reckon se feels hes won this round against us and just insists on a little dig below the belt on our way to our respective corners. The way to deal with this is on the pitch.... I hope Rafa can hold his nerve after this seemingly engenius act of effrontery. In my opinion united's defence has always been suspect, last season they got away with it because they couldnt stop scoring. Now they have lost a useful, versatile inspirational and fan favourite ( albeit for an inflated transfer fee). As was stated by previous posters on this site, this could have been a genius act of sabotage on our part...if so bravo.. But to carry it off Rafa has to hold his nerve. His rant this week was worrying keeganesque, if significantly watered down. I wait with baited breath
Vidic makes Rio look good, if anything England's national team shot theirselves in the foot by letting Carra retire, Rio is a big time charlie only for Vidic was in the team last season Rio would have been at sea nearly all the time
