Watched the match on Sky there, some achievement for Murray to beat Nadal. Some of the rallies were unbelievable. I love the way the english media refer to him as 'British', if he was english, then he would be 'english'
Murray really is the real deal, some of his shots were Federer like. He has beaten Federer this year I think or else it was the back end of last year, he has what it takes to beat him, hope its another classic.
I'm not a fan of Murray at all, I was hoping Nadal would take him (again). Fully expected a Nadal win as well. But I have to admit Murray played really well and earned this win. Even still, Nadal is a far better player than Murray and this one result doesn't change that. I'd say Federer will win the final now
That cracked me up too. Interviewer told him that it was 11 years since a Briton (The Canadian, Greg Rusedski!) was in a Grand Slam Final, and 72 years since a Briton (Fred Perry) won a Grand Slam Final.... Had he been talking to Tim Henman, the word "Briton" wouldn't have been mentioned - nor would Greg Rusedski!
Regardless whether he's British, English, Scottish or whatever, some of the tennis that was played last night was amazing. I'm not sure if he can beat Federer tonight but I'm gearing myself up for a late one in front of the telly, really looking forward it.
I'd be very surprised if he did beat Federer, but as you say, Sean, some of his groundstrokes were amazing and he covers the court really well. It's a huge ask to beat Federer, especially on that surface, but if he plays as well as he did last night he could do it. Not sure if I'll be staying up that late though. It's way past my bedtime for a monday.
its nothing to do with who i support it is the way that the english media latch on to an adopted sportsman when they are doing well is what pisses me off -
Calling him british is how they get away with it, I doubt he thinks of himself as anything other than Scottish but if he is making money off it he isnt going to correct the fact. Sure when Keane signed for us a few papers said that Liverpool had broken their transfer record for signing a british player, Keane who is as Irish as Guinness suddenly fit the english tabloid definition of 'he's Irish, really? well near enough!' british.
He played super over the two days, to come back from a break down in the final set was quality aswell especially against Nadal. It looks like he's the real deal, I like him because he's not the Henmanesc type he pretty much says it as it is
Ask a scouser if they consider themselves British.Love the ''We're not English we are scouse'' mentality.
I don't know would the lot of the half million scousers that live there agree with a few lads that flash a flag at the european matches. Anyway this thread is about the tennis. Best of luck to Murray.
Think fed has a bit too much for him, but Murrary has beat him twice. Murrary is playing with alot of confidence at the moment, tough call really...
