Me and a few mates were talking about this over a few pints the other day,who is the best Irish manager ever and I don't mean the best manager of Ireland.

So I will open this to the floor, who do you think is the best Irish manager of all time...?

Eoin Hand i think meself, he brought threw most of the players to the irish setup at the time after he left when charlton had the success, Hand was an unlucky manager but did repair the damage that Johnny Giles left after he finished managing the Irish Team

I think you misread the post mate. He is english!!
But If its Ireland managers you mean I still disagree, the most succesful yes, best no way!! He had the most talented bunch of irish players for many a long time yet they were terrible to watch.

Do you include Martin O'Neill in this ?

I'm struggling with this one

Jack Charlton success wise is a no brainer- but after reading back on when he took up the position a few years back I see how close Bob Paisley was to getting the job. Imagine what Bob Paisley could have achieved with the group of players Jack Charlton has at his disposal!!

Its difficult. I think Brian Kerrs work at under-age level was incredible, but he wasnt able step up.

Billy Bingham did a great job with northern ireland, 2 world cups, beating spain etc.

Jack did a great job for 6 years, but I think we had the players to do better. remember 1990, we had a team better than england. We were celebrating a defeat by italy while england almost made the final. Still if we measure this on success, it has to be jack.

Nice to see Eoin Hand get a mention...he did an amazing job. If only seamus McDonagh punch had gone over the bar in brussels...

Paul Doolin, its a no-brainer :D.........2 steanta cups, 1 FAI Cup and fingers crossed Drogheda Utd's first ever title at the end of the season...all in the last 2 years. We'd never one a trophy before that in our whole history!

In fairness though he was given good financial backing and its not at the top level of the game.

I'm struggling to think of a top man in club football O'Leary did ok for a while with Leeds but then f*#ked up, O'Neill was successful but in a poor league.......we're really due a successful one aren't we!? I'm hoping it isn't Roy Keane

Why would i be? A manager that took a team in demise, ireland's most succesful club that was more or less put in the first divison, got a whole new squad with very little money, full of young players, won the first division, now, the part-time, young, quite inexperienced team is second in the league...

Scully is soon to be a Rovers legend!

Aren't you a drogs fan anyway?

Am only windin' you up mate, have a lot of time for Scully he was a rock in our defence for a couple of seasons. He is a good manager and with a bit of financial backing he could go a long way........
It took Doolo a while before he started filling our dusty, empty trophy cabinet, but now were top, we're here to stay!;)

Well Megager not bad at all, that would put you #2 all time Irish manager in the hall of fame behind me after getting Dagenham and Redbridge promoted to the Prem and playing Champs League football! :D

Dub13 I think Megager is referring to the game Football Manager07 here and not taking away from his great achievement, wouldn't do enough to make the prestegious list of top Irish managers ;)

The championship manager game split a few years, with two games football manager and championship manager. The Football Manager is the same guys that ran the CM series if that makes sense. The new one should be out around the end of the transfer window called Football Manager Live and the online gaming is going to be much more improved

Heard that alright, hope its true. Apart from watching circles running around on the screen, FM hasn't progressed too much since the spilt a few years back. Still the greatest game ever though:)

Anyone going to plump for Roy Keane... ;)

Unfortunately I think the biggest achievement buy an Irish manager so far has been O'Leary taken dirty Leeds to the last 4 of the Champions League.

I am surprised there has been no mention of Joe Kinnear yet,he did wonders for a few years at manager of Wimbledon.

Football Manager 2008 will be out before christmas. And also next year Football Manager will be able to played online, Football Manager Live it will be launched next spring.

Kinda like trophymanager.com but more than likely a lot better

Joe Kinnear is a top notch candidate for best Irish manager, was totally underrated for what he did with Wimbledon and should have got the Irish managers job ahead of Mick imo.

always wanted him to get the Irish job. I think he would have been perfect for it because he always got the best out of players as he hadnt got the budget to bring better players in
