So the near disaster of the Leige match is behind us, and we escaped without too much damage. One things for sure the team had a good wake up call, but will be a bit sore and bruised after a tough game.

We have recieved a boost here, so Sunderland will probably not threaten alot going forward.
Much will depend on if Stevie G starts or not in my opinion, I think he needs to, so we can control the speed of the game better from the start, and not end up like last nights game.
I predicted a draw in this game before last nights match, and I'm gonna put my neck out now and say we will knick it, because we need to show last nights game was a once off, and we are not going to let teams out muscle us in centre of the park.

I didn't realise Jones was missing for them. That's a huge bonus and I;m much more confident of victory now. Carra and Agger strugled with a big man last night. If Gerrard is fit to play, we'll win.

I think there's a spossibilty of Keane either being benched or put on the right in the Kuyt role. I;m not too sure if Rafa will play Torres, Keane and Gerrard all in central positions until Mascherano is back

United would beat Sunderland, Chelsea would beat em, so would Arsenal. Therefore there is no excuse for anything other than a victory. Even with them not having any strikers, we still have to break them down. We need first 11. Firing on all cylinders. Hungry. Willing to attone for a shocking performance last night. The time for excuses is gone. Hit the floor running. 2-0. Gerrard and Kuyt to score.

Was looking forward to this game but after last night I am actually really nervous.

We HAVE to win, anything less and we start the season off doubting our chances straight away. A good run at the start of the season really is the most imortant thing. Historically we tend to draw this game, in my opinion I think a draw would be a disaster never mind a loss - just because of the negative effects it will have on everyone

+1 all of that. If we're to be serious contenders this year we need to start turning those silly draws into wins. None of the other top 3 teams would be happy with anything less than a win. Let's start out with a statement of intent and get a good win. I predict a 2-0 win. Keane and Alonso to score :)

Must win game as said above,we really need to start attacking teams more and taking the games to them. I felt last season against the likes of wigan etc at home, we took so long to get going, and only really upped the tempo in the last 20mins if it was still 0-0. Look at united, they come out all guns blazing trying to kill teams off early and then can start resting players etc, pool just havent shown the same urgency I feel.

I think it will be more than a wake up. If we are going to do it this year (which we will) the pace has to be picked up from the start.

C'MON THE POOL - 2-1 to Liv tomorrow

wouldn't be surprised at all if Rafa leaves Keane on the Bench Saturday.
i can see it being the same Team that started last Night apart from Gerrard for Keane...

Personally I would stay well away from the 4-2-3-1 until we have Babel and Masch back.i'm a big fan of that system but it's innefective without babel in my opinion.stick with a solid 4-4-2 for this one with Keane pushing up closer to Torres.Would like to see this team:

    Pepe
    Arbeloa carra Dagger Dossena

    Gerrard Xabi
    Kuyt Benayoun
    Keane
    Torres

    Yeah, there's Rovers - Cork tomorrow. ;):D

We normally win on first day, and we should win this one, but we also should have won last night as well.
