If you go to http://www.skype.com/intl/en/getconnected/ you should get all the info you need to get started.

It's very simple really, basically you just download the Skype application, install and as long as your connected to the interweb, and you have a webcam/mic on your pc/laptop, off you go!!! It's obviously voip so line quality depends on your internet connection / speed (and that of the person your calling), plus the geographic location of each person and so on.

If you browse that website you'll see you can also do other things, like for example get yourself a "phone number". Usually, to call someone they are like users on MSN or Google Chat - i.e. you click on a name and then call them (if, of course, they are online). But you can also "rent" a phone number for a nominal fee each month (and actually pick your phone number from a list if you want). That way people can call your skype phone via a landline or mobile.

Other things you can do is buy a Skype phone. The phone would connect to your wireless network (if you have one set up) and then you can use it like any normal phone!!! If you look at the link I sent you, you'll see an image of a belkin skype phone. Don't buy this one. I have it and it's rather basic imho. But there are some good ones out there.

PLUS (!!!) - if you are on the 3 network (I am) on your mobile, you can also set skype up on it!! It's a really class idea.

Anywho - hope that helps! Just dive into that page, subscribe and bobs your uncle :D

Yup! However, the mobile skype app does not provide the ability to call any normal numbers (land lines, other mobiles) for obvious reasons.

But besides that, yes, anyone who has skype can call you on your mobile once you have the skype app running (my phone is a nokia E65 and allows me to minimise the skype app to the background).

    Skype certainly ftw!!!!

As far as I am aware it is only the 3 network that are providing this service at the moment (i.e. 083 network). But I could be wrong.

Are you with 3? If you are go to http://www.3ireland.ie/on3/skype.htm for more info.

The likes of Blueface.ie is worth a look also for VOIP calls. From memory I think it is cheaper than Skype out.

Lads Skype is ok if you want totally free chat from your PC/Laptop but www.jajah.com and www.eqo.com are superb is you want excellent quality at very low prices and the ability to call mobiles, landlines, roam overseas, make calls from your mobile etc
