    Alright peoples.
Just wondering if there is anyone on here who has done a marathon and/or is training for the Dublin Marathon this year?
Training for it myself at the moment, never done one before. Aim is to just finish first of all, secondly try and make it in as much time under 4hrs as possible.

Yeah finishing is the main aim.
A time under four would be a bonus I suppose.
Are you following a particular training plan.
Im doin the Hal Highdon 18 week novice training plan.

Have completed week 4, did the eleven mile run yesterday and was pretty happy with how I went.
Think that the adidas race serious is pretty good for motivational targets.

Thats the link to the site with different training plans for different levels.
    I am finding it good.
Was always a good gym goer so I do the two shorter runs in the gym and the two long runs on the roads.
To be honest Im loving it so far.

i get them aswell if i train to hard . deap heat or ice before and after running is good for it also get shock absorber insoles on your shoes . you cant really prevent it but i havent got it bad since i started using these techniques to prevent it

Used to suffer with them in summer months when pitches got harder.

For you first thing is Get a decent pair of trainers for jogging (I used to use asics) This is really important
You might have to get orthics(insoles) if your arces are collapsing or to correct posture.
After you warm up you should stretch all leg muscles, and after a run
To relieve soreness afer a match I used to stand in the cold sea for about 20 mins to reduce swelling.

Lot of pre and post match care there.

Theres many different approaches people take to jogging, some do strenuous streching, others none at all cos they reckon the run itself gets you warm in due course.
Anybody got any views on stretching for jogging?

I would get the muscles a bit warm first before stretching, and do dynamic stretching for short times . after the jog I would hold stretch for longer 30 secs or so.
All just my opinion, I'm by no means an expert and dont jog that much or play anymore due to injury. I always wanted to do a marathon tho.

fair play to ye on the marathon targets.
I plan on doing a half marathon and few 10ks in september/october time. I would have played alot of gaa and soccer, but since i have moved to england i find myself just running on the roads. currently only doing about 6miles 4 or 5 nights per week, so really need to get the finger out and start upping it a bit, but i have started playing with a soccer team now so im getting the extra bit of training i need.

I would go with cally's advice. I do lots of stretching before and after my weights sessions, pays off the next day when you are not walking around the place like John wayne, "pawtna"

registered for the marathon last week. got a shiver down my spine when i received conformation. im nervous and excited ive been training but i gotta train more . found my legs cramping in a game of footie last night , although i really pushed myself as we were losing and my teams heads had dropped big time ( ended up winnin though ;) ) hittin the gym tonight . what keeps me motivated in the gym is knowing after a long hard work out i get to relax in the jacuzzi or steam room. really makes it worth it

mmmm...jacuzzi, always wanted to try the ice baths myself after training. Although Babel's recent thoughts on it, it appears to be torture.

we used to do ice baths after training with the ould gaa....its fricking hell thats all i tell ya. but it is really good. we used to do: ice baths, then shower, ice bath then final shower. but its great for the muscles after a tough work out. you feel really refreshed, and there is no feeling as good as that last warm shower and pegging on cloths and sitting down and relaxing!!
