what does anyone think of irelands chance of a medal. anyone know anyone going with the protentiol of getting us a medal. or is it not worth watching ??
Worth a watch definitely...i think it will be interesting to see all the Chinese athletes coming out of no where and clearing up all the gold medals...other than that, it's going to be a freat spectacle...and as for ourselves, i think getting on the podium will be a great achievement, and if we do, i think it could be in something that we're not expected to bring in the gold like boxing...athletics is too competitive in my opinion, and we don't have the funding that the likes of the US have...but you never know, O'Rourke might surprise us...
I'll watch the Olympics alright. There's a few very promising Irish competitors: Paul Hession, a young Galway man in the 100/200m and David Gillick in the 400m. In the women's athletics I'd say Derval O'Rourke in the 100m hurdles is in with a chance. Hopefully all the Irish participants will perforn well and good luck to them.
for the crack i put a bet on for russia to win most gold medals a tenner at 25/1,china was favourite.
To be honest I don't think any medals will be comin our way. But fingers crossed. I'll be watchin the irish competitors and most of the major finals
Paul Hession is an incredible talent and a lovely guy. But with Bolt, Gay and Powell, I doubt hell get close to a medal
whats the time difference like to china??the mens hundred metres promises to be something else too with the two jamican lads in it
I'm looking forward to the men's 100m especially since there's Irish interest. Bolt will surely be odds on favourite after that unreal world record last month. He doesn't even rate it as his best distance (I think he prefers the 200m).
Will defo watch the irish boxers, sprints and also the football. The teams have started taking it very seriously and some of the squads are very good. Much like the Tour De France, the games have taken a major hit due to the drug problems. The time difference will also be a b*tch.
Dont have much interest to be honest but i was wondering if this Gillick Fella was going, Watched a programme about him the other night on RTE very talented fella and i think he has a great chance of getting a podium place, But as i say havent got much interest in Athletics anybody know if he is up against much?
Olympic Games 08/08/08 Right we're off today. i see Argentia already won in the footie with messi winning it for them. So what are we looking forward to watching? Good luck to all the Irish Athletes!!! how many meadls can we bring back? who are our best chances? EDIT : ooops sorry i didnt spot the thread created already
