I got a text from UPC today saying I had been upgraded from 15mb to 20mb.
Anyone else get this? It didn't say it was a free upgrade and I never requested it:confused:
I checked my speed and it was 17.5 download, 1.5 upload.

Give them a ring, they should upgrade it for you. if not just tell them to cancel it..they will upgrade then.

Also seen this on their website, Too late now but we had 30 days to cancel or downgrade the service without penalty!
UPC’s Broadband and Phone services remain excellent value, however under the terms of your contract you have the right to cancel or downgrade your service within 30 days of 3 December 2010 without penalty if you do not agree with these price changes (for those customers who subscribe to UPC Broadband Light this 30 day period applies from 21 December 2010).

They say unlimited but they have a 'fair usage' policy. Last year a mate of mine had 10mb broadband with them and got sent warning letters about downloading too much (about 90gb in one month). There was four of them living in the one house downloading constantly,... they ignored the letters and got cut off.
If you have 15mb, your 'fair usage' increases and again for 20mb.

I'm not sure if this means youre sharing with 27 other people or your connection can theoretically support 27 phone calls.

Speed increase from 20 to 25Mb,with usage allowance increasing to 500Gb a month.
I've had issues with UPC/NTL in the past (as have many on here) but they cant be beaten for broadband value imo.

We're not getting it for free though. There's a note at the end of the letter that the broadband price will then increase to €25 a month from September 1st.
I originally had 10Mb broadband as it's all I needed so was happy to pay the smaller amount. I need to check to see how much I originally signed up to pay for the broadband.

If the increase is only €2 then that's grand. For some reason I thought I only signed up for €15 a month originally and thought they were increasing it to €25 a month.

I know they say the speed is increasing but is it really? I've read that they can advertise the higher speeds but whether they can actually be achieved with the current lines and people connecting to servers it cant actually be done which is why Sky havent brought their broadband into Ireland yet

Exactly, sure I only get about 2Megs on average DL speep from a 20Meg line. And I can't see it increase much. But the Fibre power is supposedly gret, so we shall see. Either way I'm happy with what I have. So i've no reason to complain. Although I did have to dispute my Download limit going up?
Going up from Unlimited to 500GB, I knew there was a catch. But alas a quick phone call, some complaining and explaining and 10 minutes later, I have unlimited DLs added to my fibre power account for when the changes take effect. :D

Hopefully when the fibre lines they are spending this massive €100m on gets done Sky will launch because with their pricing, content on anytime and market penetration they would bring proper competition to the market.

Not the case. As I get that speed across the board, including my phone, pc, laptop, and a mac. All of varying Spec. So the possibilty of that being the issue is very very very unlikely.

Im not sure you can ever acheive the advertised speed. It will always be between 1-4 Mb slower...e.g. 15Mb might actually be 13, 20 will be 17 etc.
I think the reason Sky didnt introduce their broadband is because there were no lines in place to supply most areas outside the cities. UPC have been doing work to change this but theres still huge areas of the country that are just not commercially viable.
;)
Going up from Unlimited to 500GB, I knew there was a catch.
There was always a 'fair usage' policy mate.
At 25Mb, its 500gb...20Mb its 250Gb... and 15Mb its 100Gb.
I know of one lad who was cut off for repeatedly going over his 100Gb.

For anyone who is with UPC broadband, and the recent upgrade from 20MB's to 25MB's with an increase in bill from €34 to €35 a month.
For the laugh, I decided to pursue them on this as I see it as a bit smart (pop an extra euro on every customers bill - it adds up). Long story short they rang me today and will downgrade me to 12MB for the next 5 days (no idea why). Then after that I will be bumped back up to 20MB again, and for €25 a month.
So I'm staying on 20MB, with my bill decreasing by €9 a month.
Just posting this as some of you might fancy the same - save a few bob.
