I have been watching Bernard since he came back from the US only reading about him before that, what a fighter he is and he puts on a good show and to top it all of he is a Pool fan what more could you want in a sports star.Mrs Dub13 is also a big Bernard fan, before she had the good fortune to hook up with me she hated all sports,I am chipping away at that now as she loves football and a bit of boxing.
I am thinking about heading along to this one, this 'kinky' guy looks good from the few clips I have seen of him also this will be his first fight outside Spain and its to a packed point which is not good management from his corner if you ask me (and I am no boxing expert).
My only concern about getting tickets for this now is I assume all the good ones are gone and I have never been to a fight in the point so I would rather watch it on TV than be stuck in some corner trying to make out the action.
On a side note,I would love to see Bernard and John Duddy on the same bill filling croke park next summer hopefully both going for world belts, now that would be some night.

if the Dubs win on Saturday you'll have the All Ireland Semi Final to look forward to the Day after
Bernard if your reading this - I'll give you a seat at Anfield next to me for Derby game and you can be guest of honour on our trip If you get me a ticket for fight? please -

Dunne was too cocky after his last fight and thought he could walk it tonight, lets hope it is a wake up call for him to stop showboating and be a bit more like Ricky Hatton. Can't wait for his fight with mayweather in december

fully expected Dunne to win tonight.
was listening to a Guy on Newstalk last Night from America who reckoned Martinez was a nobody, never mind Dunne......
the fact that he was beaten tonight doesn't bode too well for his Career

Touch of the century...jeez am I jealous.
Sorry for Bernard but the Spaniard was like a tornado...killed the bloody atmosphere in the pub!
Think he deserved it, cocky little so and so, needed someone to put him in his place, hopefully he learnt a lesson!

bookie was william hills
popcorn wasnt even done and the fight was over :D
I think it's all over for Bernard now...if you think how long it took for him to get this far, and his age, it would take at least two years brfore he gets where he was previously, and the world title is now out of the question...It's obvious that he needs to put on some muscle, if you compare himself with kiko, i just cannot understand why he would come out that way...and the questions that popped up in my mind when i heard how much was won...i'm not going to mention it...

Cocky is right!!!
As soon as he stepped into ring you could see the grin on his little smug face thought he had it won before the start.
He'll never get over that defeat, he is finished!!! Teach the cocky little f***er, boxing is a mans sport, no time for cocky f***ers!!

Bit harsh Joe, Martinez is unusual in that he is so bulky for that wieght class, as Jim Rock pointed out as a 21 year old he can make this weight but will struggle in a year or so to do so. Dunne will be back and hopefully will learn from this and listen to his corner in future.

Had a feeling this was going to happen. I am not his greatest fan, I must admit. I always felt his defence was poor and it was all to aparent on sat night.
Cant wait for the Hatton fight. Hope he absolutely knocks the living hell out of Mayweather!

Its poignant, like the Morrisey song, the boxers..."Losing in front of your home town, The crowd call your name, They love you all the same, The sound, the smell, and the spray, You will take them all away, And they'll stay
Till the grave".
I feel very sorry for him. I have to say he injected boxing in this country with an excitment not seen since 1985. He always had his weaknesses, his defence was always suspect and he needed this to teach him a lesson. But I think he will. He is still a classy fighter, now he needs to work on his defence.
I think a break is in order now. I think to say his career is over is presumptious. Many greats have lost and learned from it. |I hope we see him back

As many have said, Dunne was cocky, BUT thats the name of the game for most fighters.
I feel sorry for the lad, very sorry. He gave a lot of us some exciting fights. In a way we are a bit like our neighboursaccross the pond, grasping onto anyone with a hint of glory, and then when it comes crashing down we slag and abuse them.
Keep the faith Bernard, hope you come back for another crack.
