Seems as its the 20th anniversary I don't think we can let it go without some comment.I was only a wee lad of 8 when the tournament was on but I can still remember it as clear as if it was yesterday. What great times and what a super team we had looking back. The atmosphere in Dublin was electrifying and as a kid pure magical. There was not a house on my road without some kind of flags or bunting. On the football side, its a shame we did not progress out of the group but with only 8 teams in the tournament it was always going to be a struggle.I was looking for the goals on YouTube but it seems UEFA have had most of the Euro 88 clips taken down.
Wim Kieft, the Name is Printed on me Brain the Memory has Faded and i haven't Seen the Game in Years but i'm almost Certain Paul Mc Grath hit the Bar with a Header that Day.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtKZ...3XM4fZ8BHm44gE5uXNPtYUyvmdgo0KTd8PPJHfl1s1xU=
I was 14 and i still cant believe we won that game. They played us off the pitch and i still dont know how Lineker didnt score. We played great the next 2 games while England just fell apart. If they had beaten Russia in the last game we would have been in the semi's with a chance of a rematch against Holland in the final.
Yeah I was only 4 or something. Would love to be able to remember all the excitement too. Don't think we'll ever see a time like that again with the current squad not being good enough and also we have bigger notions about ourselves these days!
I was only 7! What a day though I'll never forget it! I have the whole game at home taped, I can upload it at the weekend if anyone wants. Seeing as its the anniversary and all.. Only thing is, its ITV commentary. Boo!
There was a great article on this in the Irish Times...it actually gave the 1988 article, a memorable moment...
That England game was so special. Watching that game as a 9 year old I still remember it like yesterday. Every single year on June 12 I think of it, and I kid you not, I am getting married on that date next year, one anniversary I will never forget.
