Just saw John Aldridge's 'kop 10' Irish (played for Ireland) players. Some interesting commentary.
    10. Jason McAteer
    9. Jim Beglin
    8. Steve Staunton
    7. Steve Finnan
    6. Mark Lawrenson
    5. Ray Houghton
    4. Elisha Scott
    3. Himself
    2. Steve Heighway
    1. Ronnie whelan.

He also said that playing for Ireland was the best 12 years of his life and that he's glad he didn't wait for an England call up. He may have been saying it for show, but it was nice to hear anyway.

Interesting piece. Liverpool certainly had a few top drawer Irish men down through the years. Could I ask where the article appeared, Kiltyred? It'd be interesting to see what he said about the lads and who made the short list. Thanks :).

Thanks RastaRed. Arrah they'll replay again some time. I just thought for a second it might have been one of his Sunday World columns :).

Agree with Ronnie being no#1, he played in all of the Great Liverpool teams through the 80's and into the less great Liverpool teams in the early 90's.

Shame Beglin's career was cut short by Trevor Steven, he was holding down a place in one of Liverpools best teams. I was surprised to see him commentate on TV3 with Steven in the studio ... havnt seen them sit beside eachother though ;o)

    Think that was Gary Stevens.
