Well with the summer coming up any recommendations? I was thinking egypt. id love to see the pyramids and dive in the red sea(best diving in the world they say). Anyone been there? Or any other good ideas? im not into the 2 week piss up with the lads in spain or greece. did that 10 years ago in ibiza and once was enough. Id love to see cork and kerry sometime. Im ashamed to say ive never been there but 2 weeks down there would cost a fortune.
I went to Thailand a couple of years ago with the other half, it's a beautiful part of the world, really has to be seen. It wasn't that expensive either, we just booked flights and accom for the first few nights then travelled around and found our own way. Did the road trip in America last year LA to SanFran to Vegas, it worked out pricey enough for accomodation but there's a load to do over there Can't believe you've never been to Cork or Kerry, you have to get your arse in gear and head down for a couple of nights. Stay in a cheap B&B but they really are beautiful parts of the country, Kerry in particular. Clare has some nice spots aswell
shay in my opinion south east asia is the most beautiful place in the world. Thailand Cambodia Laos and Vietnam are just amazing. The scenery , food, people, everything is on a different level and its so cheap as you say.
I was in Ghana for 5 months a few years ago and it was an interesting experience. Whether it's holiday material I'm not sure. Cuba is meant to be fantastic, unfortunately I've never been. I know I'm biased Jockser but West Cork is very nice. You could go nearer the Cork end to Skibbereen, Glandore, Union Hall, Leap, Rosscarberry, Clonakilty (yay) area. Anything east of that and you may as well be in Cork city. Or alternatively, if you wanted to be nearer to Kerry (why would you want to do that?) , there's Castletownbere, Bantry, Ahillies. You could make a few days out of it, start in Clonakilty and move yourself west. Glandore is only fantastic, you have to go there if it's a fine day. Clon is a great place for food and drink and a bit of craic. If you want more specifics, places you may be advised to go, feel free to PM me.
Spent two months last summer in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos - would really reccomend going down to South East Asia Flights will cost a bit but everything else is so cheap that it ends up cheaper than the piss up on a holiday island. Very easy to travel around and internal flights are really cheap (I have also heard bad reports about Egypt, really commercialised, corrupt police etc - I know you hear that about everywhere but I reckon there are better places to go) In 2 weeks you could fit in Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Puckett, Phi Phi islands without too much travelling Dont waste your two week holiday down the west of Ireland, that is for longweekends and the retired As for me I am off to Brazil in two weeks so any advice on south america would be appreciated
Cork and Kerry are not expensive as you might think. Plenty of competition now between hotels and restaurants.
Yeah totally agree, it's by far the best place i've been too Yeah Ireland is for long weekends, a week max imo any longer and you might aswell go foreign to get away. I heard Brazil and Argentina are quality, couple of places I want to get to some time not sure when though........maybe next year. You'll have to give us a report when you get back
Yeah i wouldnt do 2 weeks in cork kerry but want to visit it some time soon. Brasil is class. Rio de Janiero is amazing the copa cabana beach and lapa you have to experience!! Iguazu falls are amazing on the argentine border, avoid sao paolo. Florinapolis is where the brasilians go on summer holidays but dead in winter. In argentiana Bueno Aires is class. Great buzz and night life! check out patagonia too. Also go to a football game in rio and BA
Was in Luxor in the Nile valley a couple of years ago for a week. Lovely if you can stand the heat, not humid so its no too bad but in 40's every day during the summer. If you're into tombs and monuments etc couldn't recommend it more, saw some amazing stuff. Got a fairly horrific 12 hour train up to cairo to see the pyramids, well worth seeing but if you'll need patience, the tourist chasers will drive you mad. Wasn't over on the red sea coast cos only there for a week but its supposed to be class, great beaches and unbelievable diving. You can get holidays that will allow you to do both, one week + one week. Very cheap too, nice people for the most part even if you don't by anything from them.
I've heard Egypt is nice and obviously some amazing sights to see. You mention the Pyramids - apparantly the day trip to see them is ridiculously expensive, maybe someone else can confirm that or not? I went to Croatia last year and I absolutely loved it. Best holiday I've been on. Stayed on an island for a week and then onto Dubrovnik for the second week. Beautiful country, I'd defo recommend it.
No not at all. Its not dirt cheap, like somewhere like thailand, but its not expensive either if ya know what i mean. Food is excellent - lovely fresh seafood, and then steaks and all your normal food aswell. You'd get a three course meal for two with a bottle of wine and a few drinks in a really nice restaurant for around €70 - very cheap. Accomodation - we organised our own accomodation for €60 per night for our own little mini villa on the island which was brilliant. We loved it. We used Concordetravel to book the rest and found them excellent. We went in August and it cost around €1200 each for two weeks including all flights, tranfers to the island and airport and we stayed in a fab four star hotel in Dubrovnik (you could get it cheaper than this for other months but we could only get time off in the first two weeks in August so we were kind of stuck.). If ya need any specific details PM me and I'll fill ya in.
Dubrovnik - is lovely, but a few days is enough, It depends what you want if you want peace and quiet, thats the place, not alot to do apart from the resturants. cheep enough for food and drink.
Did the world trip last year, great fun. One of the best was Argentina, cheapest country i was in by far. Did the same as Shay in the states as well, would recommend that at the moment witht the dollar being so low, u'll live well. Thinkin of doing egypt myself in october, sharm el sheikh i think its called, package holidays seem cheap enough to there.
Not a beach fan myself, more of a European city break person. Everything you need is in Europe, everywhere's close by, the climate is bearable, half the continent have the same currency, and there's no massive time differences to adjust to. Never been in USA. It's spread over 4 time zones, the main cities are thousands of kilometres apart, the climate ranges from tornadoes to thunderstorms to oven-like conditions, the people are mad, visas are required, and it's just completely crazy imo.
Have to agree with jockser, stayed in Hanoi for 2 weeks few years ago $55 a night in a 5* hotel the sol melia unfortunately spent the first 10 days on the lash in the spotted cow ex pats from uk,us,aus, holl, ger, sco, just loved drink and darts.Went seeing the sights kast 2 days so sorry hadnt done sooner def plan to go back.Crackin place for a lads sess have to say.
Here, here. Love that part of the world and have spent my last two holidays travelling around these parts. Like ye say, flights over are expensive, but you make all that back as its so hard to spend money over there!
Your missing out! Chicago, New York, Vegas, San Fran, are all super cities, LA coastline is beautiful and flights are dirt cheap. I flew to SanFran in March and returned back through NewYork for 577 all in What visas are you on about? I assume it's for somewhere in south america?
