Looking through the forum, I have noticed a fewlocated in Liverpool or saying they are from Liverpool etc. I have also seen a disproportionate use of the word 'mate' here. Now, I know some people from the north use that word as well some times, but I know it's mainly an English thing. Just wondering are there many actual scousers here or perhaps people from Ireland who now live in Liverpool?
Not at all boy, that would make me look like a right langer. Honestly lads, I was just asking a genuine question. Not trying to troll or do anything like that.
Exactly. I think the fact that its irishkop.com would signify that its going to be pretty much Irish lads and lasses on the site, though you do get the odd punter who would live in or around Merseyside. Being a man from Clonakilty I'm guessing that you haven't heard the word "mate" being used that much (I certainly didn't when I lived around those parts), but I think you'll find that if you spread your wings a little bit more you'll find it being used a tad bit more...
I've heard it said a lot by people from Belfast, never heard dubs say it to be honest, I'll take your word for it though. I knew there were one or 2 scusers around, just curious if there were anymore.
Not a scouse. But i frequelently use that word. Not in general conversation as much but more so for chatting like now. Agree Sean. used a lot there. And Australia.
Was born in Liverpool, moved here when I was young and I have lots of family in Liverpool. I hate the use of the word mate personally.
I am living just outside Liverpool for the last 3 years or so an am over and back through work and college. I have definately picked up some scouse dialect since I moved over. I'd say I use "lad" or "la" more so than "mate", it is quite infectious I have to say.
ive said lad since i was 5 as with alot of my friends where i grew up in louth its not a scouse thing, la maybe but definately not lad
Maybe I used it before I went over and dropped the 'd' at the end since, can't remember but don't think 'lad' is a 'drawda' thing, where in Louth did you grow up?
Tallanstown not far from ardee. strong country accents in my area and we use lad alot, i dont think its a drogheda or even a dundalk thing. they use "kid" or "chap" in dundalk alot
