http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055266385 a link from boards.ie, channel 4, e4 and more4 are now proper free channels in antipiciation of the freesat service being launched soon. with bbc, itv, channel 4, film 4 etc all free, sky is now becoming only good for the sports and movies. if you can watch matches online or in the pub, maybe its time to give up sky and save yourself a signficant bill each month. just a thought....
would be pointless in having a telly for me anyway without sky.i like to watch sky sports news and attheraces.
Couldnt give Sky up Im too used to watching stuff in HD now and Sky have all those channels locked up now with Sky Sports 1-3 HD, Sky One HD and 3 HD Movie channels. I think anyone with a decent bit of kit at home to watch games on in HD could never go back to 'normal' telly or watch it on a PC. Heading to the pub to watch games will invaribly cost you more in the long run if you did it regulary particularly if you did a 1 and 4 pm game on a Sunday or even 1, 3 and 5.15 games on a Saturday.
just a thought. i personally never have had sky so all these new channels are very welcome. channel 5 should be free soon too which would be handy for following the italian league.
We have channel 5 its actually alright but the free channels are very welcome, means i can watch e4 and them at home
just to say that freesat is partially happening for free channels going HD. bbc and itv seem to be the first to go HD, others will follow. freesat will also include fully implentmented EPGs and ability to use machines similar to Sky+. should be good and after the initial set up cost with the new machinery, its free! me, im sticking to my lidl €80 free-to-air kit
+1 rather watch football especially our games at home in glorious HD, could never go back to blurry SD. Sky+ is a gift too. BBC HD is allready on sky in other channels, C4 HD&ITV HD are the only HD channels irish sky customers havent got as of yet
Have Sky+ and must admit it's excellent. Problem with some of the free to air channels on available on Astra Satellites (Sky), is that they don't display on the EPG ... such as UTV. This ticks me off. While Sky is expensive, I've tended to cut back on my subscriptions each summer when the footie ends, cancel sky sports and will probably do the same with Setanta ... don't get value for it when there's no CL or Premiership etc. Also, you won't get away with this too often, but once every couple of years, if you ring Sky and tell them you want to cancel as your moving to NTL due to a great sign up offer etc you'll get Sky to cut your subscription to half price for 3 months or similar after a little negotiation. Give it a try and you'll soon see
phoned up setanta yesterday saying i wanted it switched off, she offered me it for 9.99 till august and told me to ring back then and do the same again, no doubt i will, might as well keep it on for the price, friendlies are on in july so stick with lfc tv for summer. havent done it with sky though. Saving for a hd telly then gonna ring up about HD box, anyone get any discounts regarding HD box lately.
Oh yeah, frendlies live on LFCTV forgot bout that. Deadly. Season isnt over and want it to start already. Feels like we have unfinished business.
Whatever about some of them ... There's little doubt in my mind, that if we play in a mini-tournament of any kind of interest at all, Sky will sign it up.
Hi Paul Yea, Sky sent all satellite subscribers a kinda post card telling us that both channels would be gone, but that we'd be ok because we'd have the standard More 4 & E4 still or something along those lines ... I wonder why we lost them, were the delayed version of each channel ceased or is it just Irish subscribers that lost them ?
Ah no loss on more 4 anyway, it means she won't be able to watch location location location an hour after she misses it
I wonder if the +1 channels are gone altogether or just off the EPG. If they are still transmitting in the UK we should be able to programme them in like ITV 1-4 and BBC HD unless they are being completely blocked like C4 HD.
yeah, they can be tuned in on the other channels, codes are up on boards.ie, new code for bbc news is there as well in the satellite section
Thanks mate What I'd really like, is some way to programme in those "free" channels onto the EPG, must admit it's a tad frustrating as can't set stuff to record on Sky+, reminders for when programmes are going to start etc.
That question has been asked hundreds of times in forums like boards, digital spy and the rest and unfortunately it just cant be done, it is very frustrating and its up to sky to sort it out
