Alan Smith looks like joining the Magpies in a 6 million deal good business by Allardyce there and getting Dyer rid of good move

I wonder is it as a direct replacement for Dyer or to compete with Owen/Martins/Viduka/Ameobi??

What makes you say that? Smith has done nothing since he went to the mancs. Personally, I think this is a run of the mill nothing buy by Newcastle. He will trudge along next season doing bugger all.

Another badge for him to kiss now !
For all their huffing and puffing Newcastle will achieve nothing more this season than a top half finish, and Smith will add very little to that. Its seems that Allardyce is trying to create another Bolton, bringing in players for their physical attributes rather than their ball playing skills.

smith has a bit of venom but lacks any real class.
I'd imagine next season owen and viduka (when he feels like playing) will be the starting pair.

Viduka ahead of Martins?
