Gardaí probe missing Waterford GAA money

Gardaí in Waterford have been called in to investigate the alleged misappropriation of €142,000 from the Waterford GAA county board.

A senior official in the county has resigned his position following an internal GAA investigation, which RTÉ understands has been going on for a number of months.

An emergency county board meeting was held last night and it was confirmed that €142,000 is missing.

The money is believed to be from All-Ireland ticket sales last year.

Efforts have been made over the past few months to have the money returned to the county board but to date there has been no success.

An internal Waterford GAA investigation is also underway into how this matter could have arisen.

A spokesperson for Waterford county board said this morning that a legal writ has been issued against the now former official and Gardaí have been informed of the situation.

It's expected that the GAA headquarters in Croke Park will also launch its own investigation

Probably all the money lost on Dublin Hotel deposits last September :D
