Have just seen that Metallica are playing in marlay park in August. I have never seen them live but i'm definitely going to this one.

Has anyone been to any of their gigs before.

What has been your favourite gig to date

my first gig ever was metallica in the rds in 2003. metallica are very strong live, they do a pretty long set, not lazy in the performance. it was a crazy gig, you will need to queue in the early morning to get up the front and there will be moshing where your there, my back was fecked after it. it will be hardcore.

my favourite gig was up the front for foo fighters at oxegen 2005 and ill see them again at the hurricane festival this summer. also dying to see Muse, i hear rumours that they might be playing Belfast and Dublin soon enough.

Yeah i went to see Metalica back in 2003 in the RDS too and it was a pretty good gig. The use some class special effects and all that but there was some energy missing from them, everything was just far too rehearsed for a heavy rock band. Got into the gig for free and managed to get into the mosh pit too which was pretty crazy!

Oh and they had the darnkess and linkin park as their warm up acts, what a disaster that was.

darkness were fun, no1 knew them really at the time and it was just a big jump around and mock fighting. linkin park got some booing but they kept performing well and fair play, they won the crowd over. well done getting in for free. i heard the last irish metallica gig was amazing, they played master of puppets album start to finish to warm up.

I went to a Babyshambles gig in the ambassador 2 years ago after getting freebies. Turned out to be a brilliant gig.

Frank Black at Witnness in 2001 was amazing too but Massive Attack at Electric Picnic in 2006 is probably the best.
