I like the idea of this, most of the Ireland friendlies are crap and against teams who just arent interested. This could add some spice
I wonder what type of format it will take on and how tickets will be distributed. For example, when its our turn to host the tournament, will both games be played in the same ground on the same night, and will tickets be distributed equally amongst four sets of fans? The whole concept of the tournament sounds good, but playing all the games in one nation on a rotational basis over February and May could prove a disaster.
Give an incentive to put some effort into the 'friendlies' - you run the risk of loosing your place. All on for the idea. Would love to get a chance to travel locally to watch the team, wouldnt cost a fortune either.
This tournament wouldnt interest me at all. If I watch an international match I like to see quality football/players or at least some edge to it (WC/Euro qualifier). N.Ireland, Scotland, Wales and ourselves playing for pride sounds p!ss poor imo. And after last nights Pats/Linfield game, I wouldnt like to see us playing the North every 2nd year. Asking for trouble.
Bit of trouble before the game as far as I know. Nothing major, 4 arrests, but apparently it wouldve been a lot worse only for the gardai there in numbers with dogs, riot gear, etc. Also theres a connacht rugby fan in critical condition after being attacked in Belfast at the wkend but Ive no idea if he was attacked because of where hes from or it was more random.
How serious will this be taken though. It is great for the nations involved but as long as they dont field weakened teams.
Its a disgrace trouble like that. Thats some picture though. Fair play to the guards for keeping the trouble to a minimum.
Anything would be better than the friendlies as they are at the moment. Even Brazil at home was lifeless and depressing. Having said that, I don't see the appeal for fans to go watch Wales v Scotland in Windsor Park, if they are going to have all games in the same country. Not sure if that'd be a goer!
