If it comes to pass we go like the way of Arsenal and sell the rights to the naming of the new stadium or just not do that what would you like to call it..

I've come up with a few names in a Poll to see what kind of reaction off everyone about the subject.

it will be a sad day if they endup selling the naming rights after some company, think ANFIELD should always be the name of L.F.C. home patch!!!!

Simply Anfield its should be. Probably will be referred to as New Anfield while the original is in existence but that prefix obviously isn't sustainable. If worse comes to worse some sponsor may get their name in there but in that case I'd like to it called the whatever Anfield stadium in which case we'll still all call it just Anfield anyway.

how much did Arsenal get for selling the naming rights for their new stadium?

To be honest, Anfield is Anfield. It will never be replaced no matter how nice the new place is. If its worth a few 100m to call it something else, I'd be all for it. Most supporters will still call it Anfield anyway. The money we know could be put to good use...these yanks are defo the way forward

Like my job, they can call me whatever they want as long as I get paid as much as I can get

The poll says 4 voted for New Anfield and 4 for none of the above and BOTH are tied on 57.14% and says in small print that 7 voted ? It must be a Parry ballot........lets not play the numbers game !

I think it is almost inevitable that the naming rights will be sold. Carlsberg would be my best bet.

I am definently for sale of the rights. I agree with Americans that if the act will bring one star player to club every summer, we should sell. Americans are doing great job, we have appointed new commercial manager and are now spreading the brand to the Far East. Liverpool is the club with the longest list of people waiting for season ticket, which means club will increase the prices and new stadium will increase the capacity. That means BIG money in the close future.

I agree that its inevitable that naming rights will be sold, and if it means an even better team on the pitch then so be it. As for keeping its name to Anfield, I'm not convinced. To all of us Anfield is Anfield as it is now, to give that name to another structure would be an injustice to the Anfield we have now.

I made it a multiple choice poll by mistake which i why it shows only 8 polled someone chose twice :p

Its a very interesting question. It should and will be called Anfield by the fans, whether officially or not. But I am in favour of selling the rights I have to say. Football is a buisness and the Americans know how to make and save money.

Hi

I love Anfield for what it is, it's never going to be replaced imho and as such, it would be wrong to call it Anfield, or The New Anfield etc.

In principal, I've no problem with selling the rights to name the staidum, in order to give further funds to the club, to buy players, support the youth system etc.

I can't see it being called the Carlsberg stadium, simply because the name is related to alcohol and would not be considered appropriate, given it's a family sport blah blah blah ...

How about this for a name ?

Scouser Park

... Probably the best stadium in the world ;)

Hadn't thought about this but now that I do I guess a new name / sold rights is almost certain.

Stands might be named after historic club figures and the Kop will stay but I doubt Anfield will be retained and sad as I'll be to see it go I don't see how you could call a new stadium on a different site Anfield.

Reckon the scousers will come up with something whatever the business heads say...can't imagine touching a sign saying 'This is Scouser Park' mind...:)

New Anfield 'Insert your company here for $$$ and never get it used becasue we put New Anfield first" Arena

Actually the This Is Anfield aspect is something I didn't think of.

I don't agree with the opinion that because its on a different site it can't be called Anfield or that doing so would disrespect the original. For one thing it couldn't be any closer to the original site and I do believe the newly submitted plans have it even closer than originally planned. An awful lot of effort went into keeping it into the same location if not the same site and therefore retaining the pre and post match traditions for fans so I think retaining Anfield in the stadium name has been earned by not going relocating to easier options which wouldn't have required trying to get past bluenose councillers so much. Also the area is Anfield anyway.

I think Anfield can and should be retained in any stadium name whether its with a corporate one or not. Surely any sponsor will want to be associated with Liverpool's tradition anyway, that would be half the point, so should want Anfield retained in the name.

The naming of the stands should be interesting as well. As mentioned before Anny Road is hardly valid anymore since the Kop will now back onto it. The Main and Centenary/Kemlyn Road stands will obviously be renamed. I can see Shankly and Paisley being truly commenorated this way especially if their respective gates aren't retained which has to be a possibility as they probably won't have the function outside the new stadium that they do now.

It seems we could get around 100 millions of pounds for 10-15 years. When you take in consideration that stadium will cost around 300, that means that sale alone will finance one third of whole object. Naming right will be sold, that is inevitable, but to whom, and how will the stadium be called that is the question.

Ligger

They will probably go with the Calrsberg Anfield stadium or something similar (Probably Anfield anyone?;)). If they want to stump up 100m or so you can't say no to that. Boro did it up at the riverside then got the Cellnet bit dropped once the deal ran out

The rathmines inn changed its name to the Coal porter for a while a few years back, they changed it back a year or so later but to most people it always was the rathmines inn no matter what was written over the door... Sure you all have similar examples for pubs/clubs etc that have done the same

I don't see why the "THIS IS ANFIELD" sign cannot be brought over to the new stadium, even if they call it something else.

Its more of a symbol now than anything else.

We have to move on. It will more than likely have a new name with the stands being called something else apart from the Kop. Don't see what the problem is

It won't have a Centenary stand, it won't have an Anny Rd Stand..it might have a main stand but i doubt it.

Surely its going to be called Stanley Park?? You cant call it Anfield because its not actually in Anfield and I believe both stadia should have their own history. Highbury is only short distance from Ashburton Grove but they were never going to call the new stadium Highbury.

Anyway Id say its pretty certain that a quality corporate sponsor will come in when the the Carlsberg deal ends in 2010 and they'll take the naming rights. I wouldnt mind it being Adidas as the regeneration of the area is centred around sport and having the worlds biggest sports brand heavily backing the club would be appropriate IMO

I think Anfield should remain part of our history. This is a new venture and should be given the independence it deserves with a new name. Anfield won't ever be replaced.
Something like "sponsers name here (maybe Adidas) Stanley Stadium".
It is definately worth allowing some big company to in and put their name before the final stadium name. We will get silly money and in the end all of us will end up dropping the name off the start of it anyways.
I for one defo won't be arguing, especially if we get one big signing every summer 'cos of it.

Hi Paddy

To be honest, you may be onto something there ... although approaching it from another angle, I'm now wondering if it's going to be a bit too warm during the summer months (well say May/aug & September)

I don't think they'll keep the name Anfield, as every other club that has built a new stadium over the last few years has all given them a new name. Personally I think the naming rights will be sold, subject to approval by L.F.C.

Chambers

They rights will be sold but its really up to the media what the stadium will be called. If you look at the Friends Provident Stadium, everybody calls it St Mary's, this is down to the saints fans. The official ground name at opening was 'The Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium'. Initially the club wanted the ground to be named purely after the sponsors, but fan pressure influenced the decision to include a non-commercial title, and hence the ground is now nearly always referred to simply as 'St Mary's'. It is a rare example of fans successfully influencing club stadium naming policy in recent years(wikipedia).

There are other stadiums but i cant think right now. Think maybe Pride Park and the Riverside(was originally the cellnet stadium) but cant remember the stories behind it.

Anyway my point is what the media call the stadium is what will count. Do we want sky to be coming live from the Adidas stadium or new Anfield. Whatever it is initially called, will stick, so i feel Anfield has to be included in the name somehow.

I think it's inevitable that the rights will be sold but us fans will still call it Anfield. They will soften the blow by the naming of the new stands. Obviously "The Kop" followed by The "Shankly", "Paisley" and "Dalglish" stands. This has to happen in my opinion. Maybe the club will poll all fancard holders as to what the new stands should be called.....
