Bobby Robson is to become an ambassador for the FAI, the organisation has announced. Robson, who was formerly consultant to the FAI during Steve Staunton's reign as Ireland boss, will contribute to the development of a high performance strategy for elite players, the FAI said. He will also offer "guidance and support" to technical staff and young elite players involved in the National Academy at Abbotstown, once it is established. Robson will also assist in the promotion of the FAI’s joint bid with the IFA for the 2011 UEFA U21 Championships and the 2011 UEFA Cup Final and be involved in promoting the Association at home and abroad and assisting in commercial and corporate activities. “I have really enjoyed working with the FAI over the past two years and the people of Ireland have been fantastic towards me," Robson said. "I am particularly delighted that I am going to be involved in the development of elite young players through the high performance strategy and the new Academy." Chief Executive John Delaney said the FAI is pleased to see Bobby Robson continuing his involvement with the Association. He said: "Over the past two years we have seen at first hand the many attributes of Sir Bobby Robson and we know he has a lot to offer us, particularly in the development of our high performance strategy and the new National Academy at Abbotstown. "He is a fantastic ambassador for the game and it is a tremendous plus for the association that he is still part of our team."
Suprised Robson is involved espeically with the health the poor man is in. But he is one of the true Legends of football and it runs through his veins.
By the looks of him he barely knows his own name most of the time how is he supposed to remember all the new young talent. I'm not saying itshis fault heis just to old another FAI disaster waiting to happen
The FAI, Typical only using him to see out his contract Don't want to pay him off, so hanging onto him until contract is up. Thats what i'd say.
