Although he accompanies himself on several different instruments-including piano and harmonica-his style of hammer-on acoustic guitar and often idiosyncratic soloing on electric guitar are the linchpins of a sometimes ragged, sometimes polished sound. Although Young has experimented widely with differing music styles, including swing, jazz, rockabilly, blues, and electronic music throughout a varied career, his best known work usually falls into either of two distinct styles: folk-esque acoustic rock (as heard in songs such as "Heart of Gold", "Harvest Moon" and "Old Man") and electric-charged hard rock (in songs like "Cinnamon Girl", "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)"). In more recent years, Young has started to adopt elements from newer styles of music, such as industrial, alternative country and grunge, the latter of which was profoundly influenced by his own style of playing, often bringing him the title of "the godfather of grunge". Young has directed (or co-directed) a number of films using the pseudonym Bernard Shakey, including Journey Through the Past (1973), Rust Never Sleeps (1979), Human Highway (1982), and Greendale (2003). He is also an outspoken advocate for environmental issues and small farmers, having co-founded the benefit concert Farm Aid, and in 1986 helped found The Bridge School, and its annual supporting Bridge School Benefit concerts, together with his wife Pegi. Young remains a Canadian citizen and has never wanted to relinquish his Canadian citizenship, even though he has lived in the U.S. for "so long" and has stated, about U.S. elections, that he has "got just as much right to vote in them as anybody else For further information please see: http://www.neilyoung.com/
You're kidding right? The man is still vital and I caught him live in NYC in 2004 and his voice is still excellent. Reviews of the UK shows have been very good too. Anyone going to Dublin or Cork?
Got my tickets for Cork yesterday. The guy is a legend and is still producing good stuff. Saw him in Slane in 1991 and he was quality. His biography "Shakey" is a good read too, some crazy sh*t going on in the 70s...!
He was quality on Monday night in Cork, anyone else go? Ripped the electric guitar to shreds for the finale - a cover of the Beatles' A Day in the Life
I'd love to see just an acoustic set from Neil Young. Other than that I refuse to pay the money that promoters are looking for tickets these days its scandalous.
Sunday night was good but a little self indulgent at times. I enjoyed the jammin' but it got a little tedious for some of the folks around me. The acoustic part was fantastic.
saw him at slane and the man is a legend , he did a gig with pearl jam at the end of the show that blew the crowd away , genus with the guitar , check out mtv music awards when he did keep on rocking in the free world with pearl jam amazing ,cant wait to get these tickets ,bit pricey though
Bressie v Neil Young is a bit of a dilemma alright Toutless has them as low as 50euro now. contemplating it myself
Not that I have any interest in Slane but 80,000 capacity in Slane, 35,000 in RDS, Ireland isn't really that big a country... This is my fourth time seeing Neil Young but first time with Crazy Horse, looking forward to it. Anyone expecting a folky Neil Young show with all the old favourites on acoustic guitar, trust me, don't go. This will be the guitar heavy stuff, I doubt any song will go on less than about ten minutes. For me, I absolutely love it but not to everyone's tastes.
That's what's always put me off going I'm more of a 'Decade' era man.still like his other stuff though
