Supporting a club with such an illustrious history, who would u pick to be in LFC's all time greatest team? You can choose simply a starting 11 or include 5 subs. (I think that's the current match day selection available)... Correct me if I'm wrong. Obviously I havent seen many of these players in action live, but I'm going on past footage and reputation aswell. Opting for the traditional 4-4-2: Ray Clemence Alan Kennedy Alan Hansen Jamie Carragher Phil Neal Stevie Gerrard Tommy Smith Graeme Souness Billy Liddell Kenny Dalglish Ian Rush Thats a tough call... there's so many players left out... took me ages to decide on this... players like Barnes, Keegan, Callaghan, Hunt... a tough call but this is the best i can do. I dont think many would get past that midfield. Smith and Souness would kick the legs aswell as dominate the play of any midfield around, with the power and pace aswell as scoring abilities of Stevie and Liddell, they'd notch up a few goals... and yellow cards in todays game . Had to pick Kenny and Rushie, kills me to leave Fowler out, but sacrifices have to be made. What do u lot reckon?
you should all also check out my new thread... its gonna be equally as tough to pick... although i think the majority of the players in the new thread are gonna be from the last 10 - 15 years...
riena finnan carra risse mc manamen olonso gerrard barnes rush owen fowler im only picking player from the 90s onwards cause i only got into football in the 90s after italia 90. i was 2 young to see the likes of daglish etc. so forgive me 4 leaving them out
i hear ya. i've never seen em play myself... but i got the dvds, u should do the same, take a look at the legendary players that made the club so great. check out the partnership of keegan and toshack, rush and dalglish, ian callaghan and steve heighway on the wings, emlyn hughes in either position defence or midfield. Souness and Smith going into tackles, exceptional players. well worth a look. see how shanks transformed the club and paisley took it to another level.
This is so hard. So I will go on my own memories(last 15 years) mainly but also try and include a few of the legends. Bruce Grobbelaar Phil Neal Carra Hansen Rob Jones Stevie G Emlyn Hughes Graeme Souness Digger Fowler Daglish Bench: Clemence, David Fairclough, Keegan, Rushie, Peter Beardsley Thats leaving out some of the favourites like Redknapp, Mcmanaman, Aldo, Molby and Gary Mac
Mal5times I like the way you've set out your bench, just incase all goes belly up... stick on 3 of the 4 strikers u have named as subs
i wouldnt tell carra he was boring, didnt u hear the radio phone in where he challenged the presenter to visit Anfield and say he had no bottle? wouldnt wish it on anyone
Ok then...... Carra Carra Carra Carra Carra Carra Carra Carra Carra Carra Carra All together now we all dream of a team of Carraghers!
Impossible. Great question though Ray Clemence Jim Beglin Alan Hansen Mark Lawrenson Phil Neal Kevin Keegan Emlyn Hughes Graeme Souness John Barnes Kenny Dalglish Ian Rush Subs Carragher, Hunt, Whelan, Molby,Smith
Elisha Scott/Ray Clemence/Brucie Albert Stubbins/Phil Neal/Finnan/Jones Alan Hansen/Ron Yeats/Carra/Tommy Smith Mark Lawerenson/Phil Thompson/Alex Raisbeck/Big Sami Alec Lindsay/Alan Kennedy/Beglin Heighway/Case/Houghton/Lee/McManaman(when on top form) Souness/Callaghan/Gerrard Hughes/Whelan/Molby Barnes/Beardsley/Liddell/Berger Rush/Hunt/Hall/Fowler Dalglish/Ian St. John/Aldridge/Owen Some load of great players there!!!
I have tried so many times to do this and ended up screaming at myself & I think the last post shows all the reasons why and that's without..... Tubby Lawrence, Chris Lawler, Terry McDermott, Ray Kennedy, Peter Thompson ahh jaysus I'm not even going to try........
All-time Liverpool 11 I saw a recent "premiership 11" post, so I'm curious ... all-time liverpool 11? Assuming peak form of course ... Here goes: ----------------------------Reina----------------------------- Phil Neal --- Tommy Smith --- Carragher --- Alan Kennedy McManaman --- Gerrard --- Souness --- Barnes Rush --- Dalglish subs:Grobbelaar, Robbie Fowler, Emlyn Hughes, Ian Callaghan, Xabi
I would swap Grobbelaar for Reina and throw Torres onto the bench, man thats a good team if you can afford to put torres on the bench!!
Can't believe you dont have Hansen or Crazy Horse... Clemence Neal Hansen Hughes Alan Kennedy Highway Smyth Souness Barnes Rush Daglish Subs: Phil Thompson, Callagan, Liddle, Gerrard, Hunt,
-----------Grobbelar----------- Gerrard-Lawerenson-Hansen-Carra McManaman-Souness-Hughes-Barnes --------Dalglish-Rush---------- Bench: Reina, Thompson, Keegan, Fowler, Owen And people give Rafa stick for playing him right side of midfield I'll play him right back and let him get forward as much as he likes.
I think this is one where I would have to agree with Molby when he was over in the Tram and just say that you should pick these type of teams based on the era they were playing in not a mix and match. Rush is getting in everyones teams despite the fact that Roger Hunt scored more league goals than him, would Rush have been able to score as many in the much more physical game in the 60's or Rush be able to keep up with the pace of Fowler in the Premiership. Or even Billy Liddell that no-one would probably put in their team despite his record of a goal almost every 2 games in the 40's & 50's someone who most Liverpool old timers would have pushing King Kenny hard for greatest ever LFC player considering the clubs nickname for a while was Liddellpool. Would Hansens ability as a footballing central defender have been able to cope in the more physical 60's or the no pass back premiership?
