Wont be an easy one, a win against the hammers and were in 4th spot - on GD!!

I think we'll win comfortably. 3-0 at home against them should be to hard to achieve :)

Should be a comfortable win and another chance for Babel to build on his last few performances. Hopefully Rafa doesn't mess too much with the starting line up, would like to see Alonso get a few games under his belt, would be a great help if he could find some good form with Inter, Utd and Everton coming up over the next few weeks.

I reckon 2-0 (depending heavily on team selection)

This has to be a win and a comfortable win at that.

The way we have been playing lately and scoring a good few goals in the last few games suggests we should get a couple at least.
Will be interesting to see what team he starts but i would go with the same that beat bolton, formation was good and gerrards free role let him do damage.

Agreed, if he didn't change the team i would have no complaints at all, but he may change the right full and put carra back inside and rest big sami, as for the formation, i think it is the best for the players we have, we only have one world class centre forward, and gerrard needs space and freedom, while we still have the comfort of two excellent midfielders.
good to see xabi back, and had an improved performance against bolton which was definetly required.

why do we play in the league this week and the CL next week...?
wouldn't it make more sense to play the CL at the same time as everyone else and play WHU next wednesday?

also yeah if anyone has *any* idea of coverage for this one, seems every channel is covering the CL

Because AC Milan also need to use the San Siro this week. Whoever drew Internazionale in this round of the European Cup was always going to have to play the 2nd leg a week later than everyone else.

Does anyone know where this will be online? If TVU Player will have it on one of their channels?

I'd be happy with this team

Reina
Finnan Carragher Skertal Aurelio
Mascherano
Pennant Gerrard Babel
Kuyt Torres

Anyway we have to win this. I reckong we'll win 2 - 1!

Steve Bennett is the ref for this one. he has referee'd us twice at anfield this season so far in the league, our 4-0 beating of Bolton at the start of December, and then for our 1-1 draw with Wigan at the start of December.

3-1 to the redmen is what im predicting for this one. bennett to award a peno to both sides

We'll set-up differently to Bolton game - we're at home so no real chance of catching Hammers on the break. That'll inevitably mean some players will change to suit the system and the opposition.

I think he may rest Torres who looked a bit sluggish on Sun. So that could mean Crouch could be in for a starting place. Wouldn't be surprised to see Benayoun either. Also one of Masch/Alonso/Gerrard could miss out (can't see him dropping Torres and Gerrard though...)

West Ham got spanked at the weekend so they could have got a bollicking and be really up for it but they have nothing to play for - they'll remain in 10th regardless of the result - so I predict 2-0.

Also reckon we're overdue to score from a corner so I reckon Skrtel or Sami could well get on the scoresheet!!

Crouch and Sami/Skrtel 2-0...

As far as I know the Quad shows every single Liverpool game throughout the season, without fail. I think either the owners are Liverpool fans or the bar staff.

It's been a couple of months since I've been in there but I only live around the corner now so it's handy.

I've had some good, drunken times in there. Watched the cup finals in 2001 in the Quad - good memories!

Good performance at home and sounded like a good atmosphere too, Torres unbelievable again. He almost had 5. Himself and Gerrard linked up well, some nice passes between them, Kuyt worked hard and got a couple of assists, Skrtel looked solid and Mascherano is becoming Mr. Consistent.

Looked dangerous going forward and a clean sheet too.

great performance tonight...have to say i think rafa's recent formation is really working and i don't mean that because they're winning, but it looks balanced.Long may it continue...a bit of consistancy, wouldn't that be a welcome relief.. there was a lot of happy red supporters in the pub tonight.

Great performance, thought good performances, Alonso was steady without being great, Babel was wasteful but still promising. Srtkel looks better with every match.

I can't help though that feel slightly downhearted as this is what the squad is capable of..... we could be much nearer the other three on current form. Acid tests though at the end of the month.

Watched the game in the Living Room in Dublin - really comfortable performance. Don't think Reina had a proper save to make, although he nearly creamed Skrtel at one point, going for a punch.

Torres (obviously), Masch (as usual), and Gerrard were top notch. Even Riise looked good and nearly scored a cracker :-)

Torres fell really awkwardly and I had a panic moment where it looked like he'd done some real damage, thank goodness it was nothing.

This was by far and away our best performance of the season - adn i think its down to one thing -BALANCE. With Alonso playing in that system everyone has a clearly defined role, the tempo is controlled from the middle of the park and the guys at the top of the pitch had a steady stream of good possession. He may not have been spectacular (doesnt have to b) put just did the simple thing well adn kept the ball moving and was always available> Skertl was like a rock and Torres' performance was...well...as Chris Kamara would say "Unbelievabel Jeff!!"Even Kuyt played well - although would prefer yossi in that posn myself.
Hope Rafa sticks with this coz its also how he used to play with Valencia. Nice to c Gerradr give torres the match ball himself too - nic touch.
All in all very good stuff - albeit against a woeful west ham side -R u Charlton in disguise i think was the chant)

Went to the Quad to watch it on the big screen, although pub was 80% Italians & Spanish watching the Madrid v Roma match.

Torres was electric again. I love the formation Rafa is playing. Two solid centre midfielders in Xabi & Masch, Babel on the left, Kuyt on the right and Stevie in a free role. Anytime I've seen Stevie play there it doesn't really work (Athens) but with Torres and Babel he has two players who can play the game as fast as him and those three look like they are developing a real understanding. We look dangerous even when we're defending - waiting for Masch or Xabi to nick the ball and lay it off to one of those three. It's been a long time since Liverpool looked dangerous on the break.

The hunger seems to be back.

See Stevie went and got the match ball for Torres at full-time? Torres was subbed so Stevie made it his business to get the ball and bring it over to him! Class...

I'm over to Newcastle match on Sat - hope he doesn't rest half the feckin' team!!!!

Its obvious that the players now seem more comfortable for two reasons: they have played the same system in the last 4 games, 7 players have started each of those 4 games and there seems to be a bit of confidence back in the squad.
Glad to see two players who's futures are up in the air, Alonso & Riise, get a start and play well. Cant say much more about Torres, we just better hope he doesnt get injured before the end of the season. Mascherano looked to get a nasty knock to the thigh late on, could make him a doubt for Inter, I'd be surprised if he played this weekend.
We're still 12 points behind the leaders and would be in the shake up only for the points dropped at home to Wigan, Birmingham, Villa & Spurs.

Don't forget Reading and West Ham away also. another 6 or 8 points we would still be in with a chance. Maybe the penny with drop with Rafa and he will now dump his mass rotation policy. Its ok rotating full backs and maybe wingers, but the spine needs to be there week in week out....

Very good performance i thought over all.

Torres was the diference but i think when him and gerrard play the whole team plays.

83 Min and gerrard was still chashing every ball with the game 3-0/

3 against boro, bolton and 4 against west ham i think rafa has to stick with this team for newcastle and inter on tuesday. this team has the confidence now and shouldnt really be changed at all.

I was at the game (1st since Oct '05) and I couldn't have picked a better one to go to. I was with my missus and all the games we've gone to together have been 1-0 wins so I figured after Torres scored, that would be that. We kept attacking though and looked really comfortable. The atmosphere was great and there was a lot of signing. Was surprised to see a packed ground on a Wednesday, especially after all the abuse Rafa and the owners have gotten recently. The players looked really happy. It certainly looks as if whatever 'issues' the players had, have gone and in the games since this they really look like they are on a mission!
