From the club website. Are they freeing up the shirt ready do we think?

"Alvaro Arbeloa will switch from number 2 to number 17 for the coming season"

From what i heard on another site, 17 was his number at Deportivo and he obviously liked it.

I think it is no accident number 2 is vacant. So is Heinze, Kompany, Alves, Richards or an unknown?

    Might be a january signing?

Heinze is the more likely out of them. For one with Alves seems like another Malouda. Kompany is a possibility but we will have to break the bank to get him, good young player all the same

Don't think we have the money for Alves. Since we've been linked with him over the past year or so I've obviously taken more of an interest in him. To be honest what I have seen whether it be La Liga/UEFA Cup/International games I haven't been impressed. He was shocking in the UEFA cup final especially with free kicks. Although Spanish based reporters seem to sing his praises. Maybe it's just coincidence that the games I have seen him in he's been off his form. Would appear he's good going forward but maybe questionable defensively. Too dear in my opinion. I still think Heinze is too slow and obviously a Manc which makes it even harder to bear. He also didn't look too hot at centre half against Milan but then again I don't think Sami would've looked any better with Kaka running at him. If we could get him for say 3million I'd probably except it......

Read something in one of the papers yesterday (mirror i think) saying that Heinze could possibly buy out the rest of his contract in order to sign for us

SSports tonight saying Heinzes agent has confirmed he is leaving, so he will probably have to buy himself out, but does that mean UTD don't get a transfer fee for him then?

If I was a UTD fan I would be gutted to see him leave for us....something along the lines of us losing Riise to them.

    Hi,

As far as I understand he can buy out of the remaining 2 years of his contract. This will cost him about 6.5 million. This (I presume) goes to the club. Then he is a free agent and essentially goes to the highest bidder. We or Real would then compete to give him best deal (signing-on fee, which would be of the order of 6.5 million and wages). This is where Madrid could top us as they might offer him the moon and stars. If Heinze really wants to sign for us then he can.

please correct me if I am wrong here

Elisah Scott on ynwa.tv says personal terms are sorted with Heinze and judging by the puss on Ferguson today I think he'll be coming to us.

Personally I think its a bad signing. The guy is very erratic in his tackling and his positioning is poor. The biggest thing for me though is his distribution from the back, he just hoofs it like Riise. His crossing is good but overall I dont think he is an improvement on what we have

Fingers crossed Madrid come in with a crazy offer

I agree, he is no better than Riise, but as cover for CB he is more versatile than Riise.

Couldn't disagree more lads- by far the best defensive LB between himself, Risse & Aurelio + he can cover CB. Had a great 1st season at Utd and struggled with injuries last year. IMO he would be a great addition to the team/ Squad.

Im with Gav on this one aswell lads. He's Mr.Versatile can play LB or CB comfortably, and is a better tackler than Riise or Aurelio, as well as an extra threat from corners. There is no way Evra is a better player than Heinze, he just struggled with injuries last year, he was a rock in his first season with the scum. Pity he was a manc but if he comes I will love the chance to see Old Rudolph whinge and their fans cry 'cos he is a fans favourite with them. Its always nice to get one over on the arch enemy.
Can't see the transfer happening though, think he will go abroad, Big Sam said as much today too on SSN, as he was in for him aswell :(

And yet they are apealling to FIFA to allow Tevez leave west ham against the wishes of west ham. I dont know enough curses to express how much I despise that venomous rhinophymic belligerent Scot, so I wont try. Now we better beat them twice next year

Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze will not be joining Liverpool.

Heinze is looking to leave Old Trafford over the summer due to concerns about his first-team opportunities this season.

Ferguson is aware of the Argentine's wish to move on and the player has been linked with United's fierce rivals Liverpool.

But the Red Devils boss is adamant there is no chance of Heinze becoming one of a handful of players to trade the two clubs.

"I can assure you, Liverpool will not be getting Gabriel Heinze," stated Ferguson.

"We can put that to bed right now and we have done so.

"We have had a couple of offers for him and we have turned them down."

Ferguson also revealed that Heinze's agent has been trying to engineer a transfer for the past 18 months, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also having been linked with bids.

He added: "Heinze's agents are rolling the ball all the time.

"But no matter what his agent thinks, we are in the driving seat.

Lacking in pace though isnt he, and we cant afford that in the full back positions.

Something about giving 14 days notice before the end of the season I think.

This transfer could take a while to sort out if the reports on BBC and Liverpool Echo are anything to go by.
His agent has a letter sent from Gill saying that Heinze can move anywhere as long as a club bids £6.8m for him. We put in a bid of £6.8m on Monday and it was rejected. Now Heinze and his advisors are thinking about going to court. As there is no release clause in his contract I dont think the letter will count for much in court unless he really pushes the boat out and goes to the EU on the grounds of human rights or something crazy like that.

If he does bring it to court he will earn alot of kudos with Liverpool fans but I still dont think hes what we need and I dont really like his antics on the pitch. In saying that if he does sign I'll support him as much as anyone else
