Have to agree Thommo is spot on. Torres will take time and out squad depth is still not as good as Chelsea. Injuries to our main defenders would leave us short. We are well stocked in midfield and up front.Heinze would be a great signing and he can cover both LB and CB. Plus it it would sicken all the scum fans who sing 'Argentina' at every home game.
Agreed. We are strengthening our team definitely but so are 'the other two' and everyone else in the premiership. Mancs and chelski are gona be stronger (dont know whats going on with Arsenal, is wenger on hols or what) this year and were getting there but not quite there yet.
very balanced stuff there from PT- agree totally that Heinze would be a great addition. Looks like Arbeloa will be Finnans comp for the right, Aurellio/Risse for LB if he doesn't come. All shaping up nicely for 5 weeks time- can't wait to be honest. Lets get out of the blocks early this time and really test teh Chavs & Scum- C'mon redmen!
Good read. I think we are stronger than last season, but not by a huge amount. Torres will take some time, but if he gets injured we are in a spot of bother. We could miss Bellers then ( is Voronin better, I dont know), Garcia gone and Benayoun in doesnt fill me with glee. Will Babel be better than speedy (probably, but no guaruntee. We head forward with questions. That is not a bad thing. Last season I honestly thought we would win it. Im not so confident this year, most pundits still think we are short of united and chelsea...Thats a good thing in my book. The work starts now. We had a very poor preseason last year, and that sluggishness continued into october, even longer. Get it right now, set out statements of intent in the friendlies and go for it....
We should be looking to getting off to a flier and making a statement of intent. If we beat Villa (and we should if we have any aspirations of a title push) it will be our first opening day win for 4 or 5 seasons I think. Then a win at home to Chelsea (quite possible) and we can push on from there. I think 2 wins in these opening games are vital to form the springboard needed in confidence for a realistic league winning campaign......
Yeah its funny a lot of pundits tipped us for the league last year and we're higher odds this year with a better team......not massively better but least not coming off a WC Summer with a month of qualifiers before the start of that season. I'll hoping for a better season from Alonso and for Pennant, Kewell and Aurelio to step up. Pennant improved towards the end of last season and Aurelio looked like he was about to leap forward before he got injured. Those two have their important second seasons after settling in and Kewell has his last to prove his worth. We basically know what the rest of the team can do and I honestly think its how these guys perform not the new boys that will determine our form. The new boys will settle an awful lot quicker if we don't start like we did in the last two seasons. I don't believe in miracle signings, at any price, I'll judge this years lot next season.
