At the moment in our apartment we have NTL Broadband starter package(1mb). Its 20 a month. This is only good for one connection so I dont use it. Anyway I want to get access to it so I need to setup a wireless network, but the download limit is only 2GB. They have a Broadband Ultra package (6mb) that is 40 quid a month, the download limit is 40GB. Anyway is there much to setting up a wireless network with NTL (free router with Ultra package) and what happens if you go over the download limit?
Haven't had experience with NTL, on eircom nearly 2 years now, before that BT. Wireless modem was quite easy to set up, 10gb dl limit, €25 a month. I've been way over the limit quite a few times, never been charged a cent extra in 3 years of broadband use. they call it an 'acceptable usage policy'. But NTL may be different. 2gb seems awfully miserly!
I rang them and they will sell you a router(49.99) that is compatible if you are a new customer (a free one if its for the 6mb package), however for existing customer they do not supply them. WTF??? Does anyone know what type I should go for? Is there much to setting it up. I rang the Customer Service and they had not a clue about tthis. Also the guy in the house who uses it currently has a work computer that prevents him from installing software, will he still be able to connect directly or will he have to access it through the wireless? The girl said they rarely have anyone go over the download limit, if you do, you get a warning
