Was there and have a friend who is from there. She lives on an island (Csepel) in the city centre. I was brought around by her and stayed at hers, so I cant really comment on that much. City is nice and safe during the day and cheap drink is easily available. Food is really good and cheap by our standards. You can get forints exchanged in the kiosks on the city street and they are fine.

Place was litered with prossies at night though and things got fairly rough after midnight around the city. Wouldnt recommend walking around in 2's or on your own at night.

I could go on about the markets, museums etc which are brill but I dont think they are stag material.

On travel, airport is 20 mins drive from the city and you can get to it by bus and rail also. Will get a taxi fare from her and let you know, so you avoid being ripped off.

One thing, if you do go to buy food in any markets dont handle it before you buy it.

That should cost no more than 4,000 forints for that airport trip, JC23 and she says to watch out for taxi drivers they are awful over there when they see tourists.

24 of us went on a 5 day stag there a few years ago.Its a beautiful old city to wander around and drink is cheap outside of the hotels. But we found the locals unfriendly and everybody was trying to rip us off.It could get messy at night and we had a few problems but that was before they came into the EU so maybe its a bit better now .

Was there with work last year, comments above pretty much cover it. Theres a taxi kiosk as you walk out from the Airport you get a slip with the fare, its around 4000 as reder said. The other taxis in town, try to stick with the official ones, think they have a sticker of some sort on the side of them.

Coincedentially I'm heading to Prague this weekend on a stag. I've been before but its a perfect place for a stag weekend!

    Yeah lovely city.

Most things seem to be on the Pest side of he river.

I'd say it's absolutely freezing there his time of year
