http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7225839.stm This is getting to be a joke with these early retirements, he is only 28 I don't really rate him, however we are short in this position with Dunne the only real quality. It would be a toss up between O Brien and McShane to play alongside him
Dunne would b better playing on his own - wouldnt have to b watching the clown beside him. Nop wonder he's lost so much weight the last three years, you woul too if u were carrying Distin, mcshane, o'brien et al every time u pulled on a shirt.
Andy O'Brien - "The Irish Titus Bramble" The small number of replies on this thread speaks volumes about his value to Ireland. No sign of Kilbane following suit
Another retirement following Steve Finnans decision. Both should be ashamed. Both could do with more football. Regarding your snipe at kevin kilbane, he may be quite limited but at least he doesnt shirk his responsibility for representing his country. Respect for the man.
andy o brien his retirement is long over-due , dont u actually have to be playing for ur country in order to retire ?? kevin kilbane is the irish , dirk kuyt , works his ass off for little pay off
i wouldn't be so quick to slag off O'Brien. new manager will have to get him back. not too many options at centre half. O shea and mcshane are all we have to partner dunne. i know for sure i'd rather have o brien instead off either of those donkeys
I have nothing but admiration for Kilbane, to have achieved 60 odd caps with fairly limited ability says a lot for his determination (or maybe it's a reflection on the Irish managers that kept picking him) It's a joke btw.
Mad or what?? We have an entire league here to pick from if we want to find players. We are not short of players, we just need to look outside the English league to find them.
Fair point but there is a reason why irish league players havent made it to the english league,we all know that reason
let him retire and take stephen ireland with him. If he wants to throw the towel in at 28 then he hasnt the heart to do a job
Take it you didn't see Daryl Murphy's goal yesterday, or Roy O'Donovan starting, Kevin Doyle, Shane Long, they ring any bells?
Not joking cos he has a big nose; O'Brien was told he is one more broken nose away from having to retire, Id say he could see he was not getting a sniff with the Irish team and if he was un lucky enough to be in a bad collision he could end his career..
he,s useless anyway theres some good yougsters there and if we get the right man 4 ireland he,ll bring the best out of them
Bit harsh. He put the effort in when he played and travelled with the team for years all round europe without ever gettin a decent go in the team. Now when we're a bit short in the CB department its ok to slag him off for wanting to prolong his club career. He is probably not as minted as some prem players and a few mor seasons dedicated to a prem club will set him up for the rest of his life.
