People will get caught out even more this time seeing as the Mancs are at home that same day, so that handy avenue was certainly going to be cut off.
A bit more hassle involved, but the Birmingham option is currently a very cheap and do-able option for those who want to go to this one.

Martin Atkinson is the ref for this game. This will be the third time he has referee'd Liverpool in a cup game this season. he refed the league cup games away to reading and chavski.
This will be his fourth visit to Anfield and we have yet to register a win with him in charge. Time for that to change then!!

I reckon Rafa will rest a few of the big guns for this one, although hopefully not Riena as his backup is not great.
Reina, Finnan, Arbeloa, Hyppia, Riise, Pennant, Alonso, Lucas, Benayoun, Crouch, Kuyt
Subs: Torres, Itandje, Carragher, Gerrard, Masherano

Looks like the injuries are clearing up and Rafa is going to field a strong team for this one.
Feb 14 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo
Rafa Benitez (158)
RAFA BENITEZ has been given a major boost as Liverpool head into one of the most crucial weeks of their season.
Injured quartet Fernando Torres, Fabio Aurelio, Sami Hyypia and Alvaro Arbeloa have all returned to training and are in contention for a starting place against Barnsley in the FA Cup on Saturday.
With a crunch Champions League tie with Inter Milan and a Premier League game with Middlesbrough to follow, Benitez is delighted to have four of his senior squad members back.
"I need to consider both games but I know it's important to progress in the FA Cup, so I will try to use a strong team,” said the Reds boss.
"Sami Hyypia is improving. He did the warm up and could be available, but we will have to analyse the situation. Torres also did the warm up, as well as Fabio Aurelio and Alvaro Arbeloa , and they are really close.
"Now it is about whether we will take the risk or not.
"For Inter, Torres will be okay. We will have to check before Barnsley."
Torres’ return, in particular, is a major boost as the Spanish striker has made a quicker than expected comeback from a minor hamstring injury sustained on international duty with Spain.
Aurelio, Arbeloa and Hyypia have also recovered from the minor injuries which kept them out of Liverpool’s goalless draw with Chelsea at the weekend and will come into contention for places in Benitez’s starting line-up for this Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round tie at Anfield.
And with long-term injury victim Daniel Agger now back in full training, Benitez will be delighted to see his squad strength bolstered at such an important stage of the season.

The mad news has started!!
Skrtel to miss Tykes clash
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is a major doubt for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Barnsley after he picked up a calf injury in training.
The news comes as a blow to Rafa Benitez, who will now have to decide whether to risk Sami Hyypia ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Inter Milan in the Champions League next Tuesday.
With Daniel Agger still recovering from a metatarsal injury, it could also mean a place in the squad for Spanish youngster Mikel San Jose, who was on the bench at Chelsea on Sunday.

Well hopefully young jose can get a run and establish himself as a real contender for a position, at the very least on a rotation.
Hope Rafa doesn't play Torres, we can beat them without him and have him ready for Inter...

Very depressing watching us at the moment. Just not good enough. If we didn't have inter next week I would say Rafa would be sacked. Peppered their goal today but it just didn't happen. Defensively it's all gone wrong this year. We never used to let teams back into games, hapens all the time now
titicamara
16-02-2008, 03:58 PM
That was terrible, defensively that's arguably our first choice back 4. Hyypia is well and truly past it. Benayoun causes more problems than anything else when we're trying to break teams down, he just won't stay on the wing and get a cross in for Crouch, why didn't he give Pennant a chance?

Im gutted. The only consolation is this season is shaping up to mirror 2005. Hopeless in the league, a laughing stock in the FA cup, beaten by Chelsea in the carling cup. The thing is if we dont win the champions league now Rafa is a goner. Im a pro rafa supporter, but there comes a time when one has to say enough is enough. This is a new low. The players have to take some responsibility too. Not too many red men appear to want to lay their live down for the jersey, the mananger and the fans. We deserve better than this muck. Sure sack Rafa, but it will take more than a new manager to get any thing out of these players now. To blame lack of confidence is fine, but these guys are professionsal. If I make a mistake at work and its costly, I will not get away with saying things like "confidence is low". Ill probably get sacked. Professionally, losing at home to Barnsley is the equivalent of amputating the wrong leg in some professions, and I wouldnt want that surgeon operating on me next......Similarly Im so sicked with so many of our players now that I dont ever want to see many of them in a red shirt again, so Mssrs Kuyt, Riise, Kewell, Voronin, and others, Please F off.
THis is the lowest Iv felt with our team in ages. I m so sickened I nearly want Everton to finish above us now...They deserve it, because they are playing like men, not going through the motions like our merry band of hopeless jokers.
We are a laughing stock. The mancs and blueshites are probably jumping up and down with joy.

Had to calm down and have a clear head before posting this but still cannot f***ing believe that shite.Regardless of rotation a weakened team should be able to beat a second division team anyday- i'm sure that p***k lineker will be as smug as ****.Even if we do and it's a big if we beat inter does anyone really think we can go much further against the mancs /chelski/barca cos i don't am i'm an eternal optimist - who else is out there to take ragball rovers forward- the future is looking bleak and that kills me to say it.shit shit shit - how that twat can still support rafa is ridiculous
Just back from this one, still in a state of semi shock. When we missed those more than decent chances involving Crouch, Yossi, Kewell and Sami in the 2nd half, there was a real sense in the crowd that we could very well get caught out by a sucker punch, and so it proved. How they weren't awarded a penalty seconds before they got the winner I'll never know, I guess home advantage really does count for something with referees these days.
Too tired to rant and question where it all went wrong - been up since half 4 this morning to catch the redeye over, I'm off to bed to get some well earned sleep.

Still, on the plus side, Itandje won't be playing again this season, and the Newcastle game goes ahead as scheduled, as a result. :)
Too tired to rant and question where it all went wrong - been up since half 4 this morning to catch the redeye over, I'm off to bed to get some well earned sleep.
know how u feel mate.been up since 5am myself.Shocking display.Surely we should have learned our lesson after H&W? Players didnt seem interested and the lack of quality in the foward areas in the first 60 mins was extremly disappionted against a really poor championship side.We only seemed to wake after they equalised.Itanje was absolutely woeful again.looked real nervous all game. His handling is poor really too.

Itandje was shit, Carra was shit - Don't get me started on Riise - everytime he gets the ball he insists on either shooting if he's in a 40 yard radius or else playing the long ball over and over again - Crouchy needs to start winning more balls in the air - he is woeful - as for that Dirt Kuyt lad, ok he got a goal but how many other chances did he miss??For the first time in 4 years I have to admit we are going backwards - lucky to get 4th spot this season

Rumour mill has it this morning that D.I.C. will be running the club by the end of the month and they have a manager in place to replace Rafa no matter what happens against Inter Milan.Like i said only a rumour and no source but a certain ex chelsea manager is meant to be the man in waiting.Think the players know this already and have given in playing for rafa anyways which if true is a disgrace as it is we the fans they should be the ones they are playing for:(

Itanje was shit, but carragher is finished, the winning goal was his fault he gave ball away then turned is back on the guy shooting, a very high percentage of the goals we've conceded come down to carra his lack of pace and his constent given away of penaltys has cost us dearly this season, i actually fear for him and sami agains ibrahimovic and crespo on tuesday. Kuyt is just shit crouch just does'nt bother trying any more he was about a foot taller than the guy who outjumped him for first goal yesterday, finnan shadow of the player he was, alonso totally overrated, we wont get 4th this season and have to accept that alot of the players are average at best.

itanje i agree
Carra has being carrying this defence all season due to aggers injury dont have the cheek to call a legend like carra finished, carra throws himself at everything for his team. Carra is this team
Kuyt i agree
Crouch needs to be taken out with the defensive team and has to learn how to head a ball. In saying that are we suppling crouch with good enough balls to head - i dont think so
Finnan has slowed down over the last year but alonso isnt over rated he has lost his place in the team and is struggling for match sharpness.
If we win the CL and finsh 4th would you still think the same

anyone feel a sense of deja-vous here?
A manager who we all loved because he was totally committed to the club, who started off brightly but who just seems to have stalled? Even gone backwards?
We all supported Houllier long enough, but there was relief all round when he finally left.
I have to wonder if we're not approaching that point again.
I remember Babel being quoted as saying that Benitez spends all his time coaching defence, but never coaches the attackers. Maybe that's why we create all these chances, but can't finish them off.

I made that same comparison with Houllier some weeks ago. What I hate is the fear that we will come to despise a man who is a club hero for winning the CL in 2005, if he stays too much longer. I still admire Houllier for what he did and try to forget his final season.
As for Benitez spending all his time coaching defence, recent performances don't say much for his expertise as a coach!

I think it's OK to say it's time for a manager to leave, without despising him. It's just like a relationship: sometimes it just doesn't work out, time to move on :)

Yeah, we had some great times together. Remember those trips abroad? We'll always have those special memories... and of course we can still be friends :)
Think Rafa's faith cold be sealed by Tuesday. If he wins the CL I'd be inclined to give him one more season. Very big "If" though

Someone ban this *****! Its times like these that the team and club really needs peoples support. This person is nothing more than a glory hunter.
How dare you refer to a Liverpool manager who has served the club well and conducted himself with dignity as a "p****". No matter where things end up with Rafa, he deserves respect for what he has won with the club and should be remember for that.
language please lads. we are all upset, we do have a few young members

Severed this club well?? what a joke, he has us the laughing stock of the country ffs!! I CANNOT TAKE ABOUT THIS, I NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON GETTING PLAYERS READY FOR NEXT GAME!! Yeah that really is severing the team well, Childish if you ask me!!! He's turning the club into the Souness era again, and you're happy about this? Real Fan!!
He is now saying that we don't have the players and we need to buy more in! He bought most of the shite we have!! What's that all about.
He is the one that started washing the clubs dirty linen in public and you need to realise that FACT!!!!
Rant over!!
Any more personal attacks here and a yellow card..

Fair enough lol, but would you really take a CL win every season over ever winning the league title again? I don't think Rafa knows how to do it!

I don't want to open new wound from this weekend, but my experience watching this match was humiliating. The wife and I went to the local pub here in Philly to catch the match ... most of the local Liverpool fans had stayed home assuming the match was a wash, and towards the end of the match, the pub was FILLED with Utd. and Arsenal fans awaiting their match which followed. They all CHEERED and yelled when Barnsely scored their second ... ugh it was awful ... I was heckled so bad! It was all in good fun, but I did NOT want to be there!
