http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_3087993,00.html Gary McAllister is reportedly in talks to return to Leeds United as Dennis Wise's replacement. Wise has quit as manager of the League One club in order to take up the role of executive director at Newcastle United. Leeds chairman Ken Bates is keen to make a swift appointment and McAllister has emerged as the red-hot favourite for the job. Reports suggest that the former Whites captain is holding talks with Bates on Tuesday with a view to succeeding Wise. McAllister spent six years as a player at Elland Road in the 1990s and made almost 300 appearances for the club. He won the old First Division title with Leeds in 1992 before joining Coventry City in a £3million deal in 1996. The ex-Scotland international later turned out for Liverpool before finishing his playing career back at Coventry. The 43-year-old was also manager of the Sky Blues for 18 months before leaving the Championship club in December 2003. That is his only managerial role to date, but it appears as though McAllister is on his way back to Leeds where he remains a popular figure. Meanwhile, Dave Bassett has left his role as assistant manager, meaning technical director Gwyn Williams will be in charge for Leeds' game with Southend United on Tuesday night.
He was doing ok at Coventry, lord of mercy on her soul his wife went very ill i thought he left because due to that reason.
Wish him the best of luck - think his mind wasnt on the job while at coventry coz his wife was very ill at the time - always reckoned he'd make a good coach, very clever guy. I think that chris coleman would also b a good appointment - think he did a great job with fulham when he was there and they always at least tried to get it down and play - he had no money to spend, they sack him, give sanchez 30£m or so and he lands them in the relegation zone. If coleman had had that kinda money ive no doubt they'd b comfortable midtable team now. Can see it all going peashaped 4 leeds again unless they get this next appointment right!
Best of luck to him. What a man for encouragment and drive on the pitch. I'm sure he'll be great with Leeds off the pitch
Of Course. I meant I hope he has good luck with it. A great guy. I agree with ye, I think he could do very well as a coach
Confirmed as new Leeds manager. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/7215732.stm
Fair play to him, would love to see him do well at the club, and even see them back up in the top flight fairly soon.
Great to see him back in football and i wish him the best of luck. What do you guys make of Wise going to toon?? There has gotta be something more to that?
They lost tonight. I'm assuming Macca was in the stands and had little or nothing to do with tactics and team selection.
Anyone see Staunton named as Gary Macs assistant today. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/7226035.stm
Good luck to him. Bad experience all round as Ireland manager. He didnt do a great job but didnt deserve all the personal crap thrown at him, just Roy Keane referred to him as a muppet in Saipan its stuck ever since and all the keanoites were against him from the start. Glad to see he can get back in the game anyway.
