Hummm,

No wonder the yanks bought us ... very profitable on player trades so fair I'd say, looks like more money has come in than gone out so far ! ;) :D

Ok from the echo today.....

"Following last week’s £18m purchase of Fernando Torres" so its only 18
"Craig Bellamy will move to Upton Park for £8m once he reaches agreement on the pay-off he’s expecting from Liverpool."

Djibril Cisse has joined Marseilles in a deal worth £8m, while Mark Gonzalez is joining Real Betis for £3.5m.

With Luis Garcia and Florent Sinama-Pongolle also moving on for a combined value of around £5m,

Thats 24.5 mil sterling...which still covers the levia + torres signing

How much anually is the new carlsberg contract?

Some of the figures generally look rough around the edges with such differing reports. God knows what Torres cost considering its been quoted 18-27m ! Its seems to be a mystery though they did say they didn't pay as much as people were saying (and getting 6 years at a reudced wage rate was a big thing). I can only presume the Garcia money was implicit in that 18m figure though it still seems low. I thought Garcia and Pongolle deffo fetched more than 5m combined (saw 3.5m for Pongolle) and Gonzalez was originally meant to be going for 5m to Betis.

Supposedly Benitez is meant to have the same spending power as last year (~30m : Kuyt 14, Pennant 9, Bellamy 6) plus any money he got from selling players. On the face if it if Torres was ~20m, throw in Levia cost and other younger players and we've got in ~25m that should leave basically leave the bulk of the original 30m for more purchases ???

8m for Cisse is particularly pleasing rather than another loan job. Sky had mentioned 6.5m for Babel, seems Benayoun likely to come too (or maybe they do the same job ?). Just say those two did cost 15m combined and even if you throw Henize (4m) on top of that there's still room for one more double figure signing.......we're looking a bit short on central midfielders ;)

I thought I was the only one to notice that, thankfully I've not completely lost the plot .,... we definitely need another central midfielder, to push Gerard so far out wide, he ends' up 15 rows up the Centenary stand next season  :rolleyes:

Funny you should mention that as did you notice in his interview about Torres (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N156341070710-1410.htm) that he mentioned -

"I think we could be getting to a point where our squad is comparable in all departments now. I see four or five players competing for two positions in key areas of the team, and that shows how strong we are.

I wonder which two key positions he might be talking about there mmmmmmm himself, Alonso, Mascherano, Sissoko and Levia going for central midfield perhaps ?

Ohhh-o-Ohhh-o-ooo-ooo We're got the best midfield in the world, we're got Xabi Alonsoo, Momo Sissokoo, Gerrard and Mascheranoooo-ooo-ooo :D

..on a sidenote Maschernoooo-ooo-ooo scored two in Copa America, nice one ! Thank God he missed the first half of last season or he'd be knackered by Christmas. He'll be well fit to help us avoid our near traditional early league slump anyway but no doubt will have to be rested at some later stage.

Right lets sort this out
following this statement from Hicks "We brought in some good players and spent more money than has ever been spent before at this club."

Salif Diao Free
Luis Garcia £4m

can't think of much else myself but that's a net outlay of less then 20m. Hardly massive by todays standards

And thats excluding as i say our sponsorship and CL money for that year....anyone have figure on those? That would bring the spending down to less to 10 million in my opinion

I think Jocksers post about signings in and out is about right but i think Torres was more than 20 million?? Most quoted price i've seen and heard is 24. Although the official transfer fee for Bellamy was 7.5 i think Liverpool had to pay him off a certain amount as he didnt ask for a transfer etc so would have been less than 7.5. Plus Liverpool had something like a 7million pound bid in for Heinze which was rejected bringing the net transfer budget for this season so far to approximately 30 million. Which isnt too bad considering liverpool/hicks and gillette are in the process of building a 450 million pound stadium!

Arsenal deal involves stadium naming rights so completley seperateso including carlberg contract (still excluding champo league money)our net spend was 9 million for the summer right? Now lets speculate that champo league money is around 5 million.....its probably alot more than than ......the net spending is down to 4 million.........
So no matter what they say last years spending was not the largest in recent years (maybe even the smallest?) and it annoys me every time they try use that line on us!!!!

If we have to sell players to finance other buys the good thing that these sales will be made at a profit and if Sissoko or carson is sold, a massive profit. That has to be good business done by Rafa and RICK PARRY, so the americans should realise this and stop taking shit about spending the most money ever at the club. yes they broke the club transfer record but look at the player we got. Imagine FT has a bad start instead of a great one? Im with Rafa all the way lads but the money men alays win.

this is published by uefa and we got something like 18 million in for reaching the final last season. The thing is that the higher % of the pool goes to the team who generate the most money in TV rights and where they have finished in their domestic league. No prblem on the TV revenue a of course as we are a big draw, winning domestic league of course a big problem.

from the horses mouth so to speak, from uefa.com

Knockout bonuses
The 16 teams that reached the first knockout round received a bonus of €2.2m each. Another €2.5m was earned by each of the eight quarter-finalists, and the four semi-finalists each received €3m. For winning the UEFA Champions League final, AC Milan received €7m, while the runners-up Liverpool FC received €4m. The figures do not include income from match ticket sales.

Market value
With respect to the other half of the prize money, each club's share in 2006/07 depended on the value of its national market, as well as the number of clubs per association, the positions in domestic championships in 2005/06 and the number of games they played in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League. Milan received the biggest amount for the UEFA Champions League season (€39.59m), followed by Chelsea FC (€34.66m) and Liverpool (€32.22m).

So lets say during the summer that was valued at 20 million sterling.

Our Net spend last summer was, give or take a million,......... -11(minus) million !!!! In other words we made a profit after all player spendings of 11 million

Now of course you would have to take into account spending in the previous year on the basis that we would get CL funds that summer but surely not 11 million over in expectations..........

Anyone STILL believe last summer they "spent more money than has ever been spent before at this club"
Who do they think we are trying to pull that shit ???

Every list of figures I've seen over the past few months, including on this forum, points to the fact we didnt actually spend alot (against sales). Thats all well and good but with the new stadium costs soaring, just like any other buisness, the yanks will be looking to tighten the purse strings. As much as we all want to win the title this year, I guarantee H+G will be looking for CL glory. Cha-ching!
