This started on another thread so I took the liberty of posting this for Philly_kop,I am sure we can give him some local knowledge. Here are the variables: My office is in Tallaght My wife's office is near St. Stephens green We've both lived in Philadelphia and Manhattan, so we prefer city environment: pubs, restaurants, museums, etc. We expect to use the bus, LUAS, train, etc. to get to work (i.e., no car!) We're looking to rent
Wow! Thanks for helping me!!! We are looking to rent either ... we lived in a high rise for 2 years, in a house for the past year ... one-bedroom preferred, studio OK. Washer and dryer a neccesity. Wow, I feel like I'm posting a classified ad! So I guess if anyone has recommendations on specific neighborhoods, streets, buildings, etc. Thanks!
What do you think of THIS Apt for a start...? The IFSC would be grand for you as you could use the LUAS for work and the wife could walk or take a short bus journey to work.
That's an ourstanding start but I'm only seeing 2 bedrooms available ... we'd prefer 1 br. Hmmm, I found their website directly, so maybe I'll look there .. thanks for the tip!
Hi Philly To be honest, Dub13 has selected a great area for you ... it's central, great access to public transport (and you'd be traveling against the traffic, which makes life easy), it's walking distance to all the city centre for your wifes' work & night life. With Spencer Dock almost finished, you can expect to see a lot more apartments being offered for rent, which should bring the rent down a bit. You could consider Island Bridge, which also has a lot of apartments and is on the Luas line you would need for Tallaght, but: - it's got less social life at night, you'd have to travel into town a bit - it's less convenient for your wife to get to work from, a longer walk or perhaps a bus ride - it's probably less "trendy" an area than the IFSC Nonetheless, it's also perhaps a little cheaper for you if your considering the amount you want to pay on rent. Smithfield might be worth considering, although in my personal view, it's still not as good as the IFSC Check out http://www.daft.ie/lettings/ to get an idea of prices for rent in various locations.
Rathmines sounds like an ideal location for you mate or rathgar. Going to tallagh in the mornings is fine as i used to work out there and travel from rathmines. Its fine because you are going to opposite way to everyone coming into the city. as for st stephens green its very near and walkable on a nice day I lived in rathmines myself and would recommend it
Any luck with he search...?Whe you do come over make sure to come along to some Irishkop nights on the beer.
My search has thus far been anecdotal, investigating different neighborhoods, etc. ... I'm probably going to start the "real" search in a week or two once we're closer to the move date. I'm really liking the suggestions I've received so far ... just a matter of getting my hands dirty with the searching! I'll definitely be joining some Irishkop nights ... and it'll be nice to watch a match at night for a change instead of at 8 AM!!!
Well definitely keep me informed ... Since I'm not moving until late March, I was expecting that I wouldn't realistically get to a game until September ... but I'll be down for a trip for sure!
Looks like week of 31 March will be move-in week ... our companies are paying for us to stay for a week or 2 until we find an apartment ... thanks for the info so far ... I've put your recommendations on the list!
Looks like we'll be moving over the week of April 1 .... and we'll be there for at least year, more likely a few years. Can't wait to catch some Liverpool matches in the pubs ... and I definitely plan on attending a few.
Hey Philly_Kop You know you'll be expected to throw a party and invite all your LFC mates over for lots of free booze etc once you move into your new home don't you ?
