View Full Version : Bellamy Joins to West Ham
just been confirmed on ssn
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has revealed Craig Bellamy has left to join West Ham.
The Reds have decided to let Bellamy move on after just one season at Anfield.
The record signing of Fernando Torres pushed Bellamy further down the pecking order at Liverpool and West Ham have moved quickly to offer him a way out of Anfield.
West Ham have been keen to bolster their attack and they have been frustrated in their attempts to sign Darren Bent, Mark Viduka and Djibril Cisse already this summer.
Alan Curbishley is actively scouring the market for reinforcements and Bellamy's move could help pave the way for Carlos Tevez to join Manchester United.
Benitez speaking after Liverpool's 3-2 friendly win over Wrexham, confirmed Bellamy had agreed to move to Upton Park.
"He's signed for West Ham, it's done," Benitez told Sky Sports News.
"He knew what I thought and I think it's a good move for him."
When asked if Djibril Cisse had sealed his expected move to Marseille, Benitez said: "Yep, it's done also."
Liverpool have been linked with a move for West Ham's Yossi Benayoun and Benitez confirmed talks are ongoing regarding a deal for the Israeli international.
"I don't know. (If he's coming) It's clear he'd like to come," continued Benitez
"We've made an offer and now we need to wait.
"He's a player I like. We've made an offer, now they said no.
"Now we need to wait because he's a good player for me. "

I'm sorry he's gone but I suppose it was inevitable once both Torres and Voronin were confirmed.
Best of luck to him.

the deal has been delayed due to a private contractual issue between Craig Bellamy and Liverpool, which must be resolved before any transfer can be completed.
Any idea What that could mean?

I would imagine that its a loyalty payment as Im sure he hasnt put in a transfer request and we have decided to ship him out.

likewise. Although he rarely stays at a club longer than a season. Pity because he has bags of potential.

Just saw his interview on ssn, came accross well doesn't seem bitter, said it was obvious he wasn't in rafa's plans, sorry to go etc? and still loves liverpool he would have liked to stay "Liverpool is a club you would not leave easily"
"i'm a supporter"
Best of luck to him with west ham.
have to say I love Rafa's mean streak... Nunez, Morientes, Cisse, Bellamy
Brings em in, has a look... Not good enough, see ya!
I'm sorry to see him go, but I think he'll be a good addition to West Ham. Best of luck to him.
I;m not too sure than Benitez didn;t think he was good enough, I just think his fate was ultimately sealed with the training camp bust up before the barca game. I;d say Bellamy is sick he;s blown probably his last chance at a really big club but I;m glad to hear he hasn;t come across bitter in the interview on SSN.

Benitez was right to sell him. Bellamy had a lot of passion and heart for the club but when you're not good enough for l.f.c, you're just not good enough! He was never used to having so little space with his other clubs as teams defend very deeply against us, so no space in behind, which is when Bellamy is at his best. Who knows, Maybe he could have stayed and adjusted his game, but chose to leave and play regularly. Which is fair enough in my opinion. Best of luck Craig. Just don't come back to haunt us during the season ok? :D You'll always be remembered for that performance in Camp Nou. :)

Hi
Have to say I agree .... didn't think Bellamey was good enough and didn't take to him, from the day he first landed ... but wish him the best at West Ham.
Sure, it's sad that he's going, given he's indicated in interviews he supported LFC as a child etc, but hey ... what about Robbie Fowler if you want to go that route, with a key difference being Robbie did the bizz for us big time !
I'll always remember Bellamey for:
- The famous goal in Barca
- The bust up with Riise (at which point, I decided without doubt, Bellamey had to go and was wrong for LFC)
Anyway, onwards and upwards....

Cisse ! Thats Houllier baggage and he did well to get the money he did for him in the end. I think Nunez was only ever a squad filler when Rafa came in late and had to bolster the numbers very quickly. Morientes was a mistake alright but who would've thought so at the outset ? I remember being quite flattered that he wanted to join us initially since we weren't connected with big names much and he certainly was that at the time. Its one of reasons I like the fact he's aiming young now as I think its harder for more mature settled players to adapt to English football.
I don't think Bellamy was a complete failing considering he cost 6m, had just scored 13 league goals for a middlin team when a regular starter, stepped up for us after his court case was done and bigtime in Barca with all the press attention on him, was only with us for one season and we made a profit on him. I don't know if the golf incident decided it as it may have been more of a squad question, what kinda players did we need the most with a set budget. I still think he'd probably be as good a winger as you can buy but maybe that wasn't an option for him. Personally I would've kept him to be honest as he showed enough on the pitch for me even if his chances were limited in the latter part of the season but thats neither here nor there now. With Garcia gone also I wonder will we miss not having any maverick spark thats not just dictated by team tactics. Hopefully Torres will provide that or Kewell if he gets back to where he should be.
A good point I saw made somewhere (might have been Parry actually or maybe Tompkins) was that people forget if Owen wasn't sold that we wouldn't have had the money get in Alonso and Garcia. Without Garcia's goals in particularly we mightn't have won the CL that season. Those two signings, Sissoko, Agger and Mascherano stand out for me. I'm hoping Pennant will come through even more.
I think probably Rafa's meanest streak was in relation to Gonzalez though. After all the hassle in getting him he never got much of a chance. Maybe he didn't show enough to deserve it but the day after the CL himself and Zenden were gone according to the club site. A lot of non-Reds do ask me why did Zenden play in the CL final if he was going, that it doesn't make sense if he was supposedly good enough to play in the final the day before. I kinda agree with them but Rafa is dispassionate when he needs to be and does whatever is best for the team on the day. Thats why when someone suggested Bellamy didn't come on in the final because of the golf incident I said no way if he played him in Barca he would've played him in Athens if he thought that was the right thing to do.
