    Hi

Whats your thinking on the introduction of "sin bins" in football, whereby a player would be sent off, for say 10 minutes, rather than the entire game - possibly after a yellow card, if not after two ?

Often, depending on the reason for the yellow cards, I feel it's a bit too harsh to send the player off for the rest of the match ... granted, it's very much a case by case issue. As such I think I'd be in favour of the idea of using "sin bins" myself.

It seems Rafa also likes the idea:

    So,

    What do you think ?

Personally I would be very much against a sin bin rule, purely based on the fact that it probably bring us very close to using tv replays during a game. If a referee is unsure as to whether a red card should be introduced to send a player off, or an orange card say to sin bin a player, he is most likely going to need a tv replay and a fourth referree to come to a decision. This would just pure kill a game off as it would be stopped for at least a minute, possibly two while they are trying to clear up the impending mess.

Keep football the way it is I say, it ain't broke so why bother trying to fix it. Honestly, Rafa and garrettod are starting to sound a bit like that fella Sepp Blatter with these notions ;):D;):D

    ROFLMAO :D :D :D

What about all the wrong decisions Ref's have made, resulting in players being sent off in the wrong, penos being given as a result of incorrect decisions & resulting in the wrong teams winning games etc ?

Or not getting offside decisions like in Istanbul when the linesman was flagging for a Baros offside before Smicer scored ;)

I know exactly where your coming from mate, but you'll never convince me that tv replays should be brought in. It works in sports like tennis, rugby and cricket because they are stop-start games anyway. Bring in tv replays to football and you'll kill the game. Also, instead of seeing more of the game at the ground like you would these days, you'd nearly be better off staying at home on the couch to see more of the game via the tv replays!

I realise I'm going slightly off topic here btw, seeing as the this thread is about sin bins and not tv replays

I Don't Think Sin Bins Would Work In Football.you Would End Up With Refs Bottling The Tough Decisions And Going For The Sin Bin Every Time.it Would Also Spoil The Flow Of A Game If You Had Players Coming Off And Going Back On(believe Me If This Rule Came In Then There Would Be A Huge Incresae In Players Been Carded.now Refs Tend To Err On The Side Of Caution,if They Had This Option Then It Would Be A Free For All)also On The Subject Off Vidieo Replays,no No And Thrice No.the Beauty About Football Is That No Matter What Level You Play At Be It Profesional Or A Schoolboy In The Park The Rules Are The Same.mistakes Win Games Whether Its By A Player Or The Ref And Thats The Beauty Of The Game And Why We Love It So Much.

No, I dont want it. Player gets sent off for 10mins so his team changes formation and is pure defensive till he comes back. While football may not be the "beautiful game" it once was, major rule changes like this or video replay is not the way to go.

I'm not so sure, I would like to see it tried out. Thing about suspensions is they benefit the next team you play, not the opponents. In qualifying group games (CL or end of PL) this can backfire on you. If there's a 3 way tie at the top you might want your opponents putting out their strongest side.

Also it's useful for the ref. When JT or WR etc come spitting in your face telling you what decision to make you just send 'em to the sinbin, end of. Not as serious as a red card and it'll teach them not to be cheating.

You might get 7 vs 9 for a few minutes each game which would be exciting but a bit strange to watch. I wouldn't mind playing like this. You'd probably get timewasting too though with players waiting to take throw-ins etc.

There's no advantage to LFC or Eire that I can think of from the sinbin rule except that we traditionally are less dirty than other PL teams. Meh

I think it's an awful idea. The run of play would be disrupted, players out of position etc. Also, players would be more likely to take dodgy chances if they knew that they could be back on the pitch in 10 mins.

I don't think its a good idea at all. I agree with the whole 'if its not broke...' thinking. Ref's are always gona get decisions wrong whether its the ball going over the line, pushing in the box or red cards. Thats the beauty of the game. Decisions go against you one wk but tend to ballance out. You don't want football to turn in to a game of stop starts for every decision the ref is suppose to make. I say keep it the way it is and we can all give out about the refs decision after the match :D

Down with that sort of thing! (Sin bin & TV replays).

As for introducing technology that confirms if the ball crossed the line or not... I believe FIFA are currently testing two possible technologies... 1 uses a microchip in the ball and another uses sensor camera in the goal or suspended around the stadia...I think the latter is currently in place in one of the premiership grounds but is not permitted to be used to influence the refs decision.

The microchip in ball looks like a winner to me - I cannot see any disadvantage to this and I reckon it will be introduced sooner rather than later.
