Fantastic city man, and good place to bring the bird too - if you're looking for a fancy dinner with piano player in the backround who'll play any request you like (he's in the guinness book of records!) go to Le Saint Jacques, Jakubska 4, Stare Mesto, 110 00 Praha 1.
And as for the beers... mmm, beers

Great place and dirt cheap too
I went there in march it snowed like mad and it was -2 degrees all week.
Budvar and Pilsner is the local drink and there are delicious, and about euro a pint
Mighty spot alright and the talent is savage. You might be best advised to bring a jacket and wolly hat in February though.
Rocky O'Reilly's Irish Bar is your typical Irish bar near the city centre which I ended up more nights than I care to remember!

Prague:
Was there last year, and it was disappointing. Tours were boring, people were unfriendly, restaurants ran out of food, taxis were a rip-off, and changing money was a kick in the bs.
On the other hand, it's great for drunks and nymphos, aka "stag parties". Otherwise, there are nicer, and cheaper places, such as Krakow, Budapest, or even Bucharest.

You really did have the worst luck on that trip didn't you!
I guess you take what you want out of the tours. The best thing you can do is head up to the castle and stuff like that thats takes your fancy.
To be honest I didn't have a problem with any of the locals, and actually had a good laugh with a few of them over a beer.
As for restuarants, any restaurant that runs out of food is plainly badly run so I think you just chose the wrong type of place to go to. I would be exceptionally surprised if you went to more than one restaurant that ran out of food.
If your staying close enough to the city centre then you shouldn't find the need to use taxi's that often. The only times I used a taxi was to and from the airport, and I don't recall being ripped off in any sort of fashion. Agree a fair price before hand if your worried about being ripped off.
As for changing money, well if you find that annoying then there's not much hope for you travelling the world!
There is no doubt that Prague is a big attraction for stag parties, but its by no means in your face. If you want to avoid them with your lady by your side, then its easily done.
Btw, I'm not having a go at mypost here by contradicting everything he said, just trying to put a more postitive slant on it for kopirish, who could maybe learn from other's mistakes.

Eh, he's goin with the "other half" so he'll have to be careful there Sean mate :D :D :D
- I was there a few years ago, all the birds were dressed to the hilt and wearing shortish skirts, FMBs etc ... quality.
Beer was cheap and great, meat was a bit dodgy as I recall - think the places we ate, the beef was almost a grey colour like it'd been boiled for a week, but the corn on the cob from the vendors on the street was tasty and so was th beer (did I mention the beer is great :D )
... As I recall, the old town square had a hald dozen outdoor / indoor restuarants (probably touristy) and was an OK place to hang out, though this may have changed since I was there.
The Tram system was also pretty good and very cheap, no doubt this is still the case & thankfully, almost everyone on Prague speaks great English so easy to get around.
If your into history, some great castles there - the one in the city itself is good, but there are even better ones with coach tours regularly available ... around 2 hours out of the city, but well worth a look if your into this kinda thing.

I went to 2 well-known fast food restaurants in the centre that ran out of it's main foods. While a taxi from the main train station to my hotel 2 kilometres away cost €30.
I don't find changing money annoying, but while they change Euro without quibble, changing from other currencies into Crowns was a major problem. The only answer you got was a firm "No".
As said before, great for booze and parties, but lacking in things to do, and places to go. While nice, a bridge and a castle can't keep you amused for a week(end). Wouldn't be there for the booze myself, as why travel 1,000 kilometres in search of a beer?

Was there a few years ago and while there was almost trouble with a few locals, I put it down to bad luck. You could have a run-in with someone anywhere you go. Basically I thought it was a very nice city for beer, women, sightseeing, casinos and I would recommend it more than Krakow or Talinn. There was an Irish team (possibly Sham. Rovers) playing there while we were there and their fans trashed one of the Irish bars (James Joyce I think). Apparently one proud paddy left his mark by taking a sh*t ON the bar. Nice:rolleyes:

I think we are staying in the Hilton(Getting a good discount rate) and its near the city centre so no need for taxis. Gordon Ramsay has a restaurant in the hotel, so hopefully the food will be ok. A casino in it aswell. Not really into tours and all the lark, although will have a good walk about.
I have a list of place in Europes I intend to get too before I am 30, so Prague is on the list(Also Krakow, Budapest and Bucharest as you have mentioned). I am partial to the odd beer aswell:D:D

Rovers played in Liberec in 2003. Cork City played in Prague since then.
